Work Health and Safety (WHS) Entry Requirements
With the introduction of the 2012 Work Health and Safety qualifications, there has been a “tightening up” of the pathway into the BSB51315 Diploma of Work Health and Safety.
You have selected the entry option into the BSB51315 Diploma of Work Health and Safety. This means that you may not officially hold the BSB41407 Certificate IV of Occupational Health and Safety, BSB41412 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, however you are able to provide evidence that you possess the skills and knowledge sufficient for entry into the BSB51315 Diploma of Work Health and Safety.
A Diploma is a high level qualification and those seeking entry into BSB51315 Diploma of Work Health and Safety must be able to demonstrate relevant qualifications and or experience. You need to be able to demonstrate you have either already achieved the Core Units from BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent competencies. The core units are listed below.
BSBWHS402 Assist with compliance with WHS laws BSBWHS403 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and
participation processes BSBWHS404 Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control BSBWHS405 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems BSBWHS406 Assist with responding to incidents
About the Entry Process
The option you have selected here recognises your prior skills and experiences in the core unit requirements of the BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
You are required to complete this application package in full and return to the nominated email address for assessment.
Your application package requires you to complete the following prior to submitting:
Enrolment Form Application and Employment History Form Self-assessment questionnaire Portfolio of evidence (including resume see notes below for guidance) Complete Entry Test (25 Questions)
Once you have completed all section of this package you can submit for assessment to [email protected].
Your application will be assessed by a qualified HBA assessor. If the evidence you provide demonstrates equivalency in skills, knowledge and experience for the entry requirements you will be able to successfully enter into the BSB51315 Diploma of Work Health and Safety.
The following provides you with some guidance as to collecting evidence as proof of your prior experience.

Validity
Saying something is simply not enough.Documents like resumes are merely saying something in writing (statements) that need to be backed up by supporting evidence. They give us a clear picture of what you are currently doing and may have done in the past however anything you say you have done in your resume must be supported with hard evidence.
Hard Evidence
If it isn’t in writing, it doesn’t count. All evidence needs to be documented, and may include items such as testimonies, reference letters, third party reports, as long as they are recorded and are able to be validated.
Currency
Everything needs to be current (up to date) Just because you hold a qualification it doesn’t mean it’s acceptable. Things change and you need to demonstrate how you have maintained your currency. Think about what you have done to maintain your currency: have you attended workshops, conferences, further refresher training, read publications, signed up to industry journals or newsletters or observed the practice of others etc.
Overseas, Non-accredited, and University Qualifications
These may not be measurable against Australian Qualifications. The trap here is that these qualifications may have different terminology, components, learning outcomes, or elements that we are simply unable to accurately map against the units in a VET course. If we can’t map it, we can’t award it.
Your Own Work
Your evidence needs to demonstrate your work, experience, knowledge and ability against ASQA and the training package requirements. What your company or another organisation counts may not be enough or correct for ASQA or the training package requirements.
