JACK MOEHLE Jack Moehle is the Ed and Diane Wilson Presidential Professor of Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley. He was the founding Director of the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER). His research and teaching interests are in structural engineering with emphasis on reinforced concrete and earthquake engineering. A licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California, Dr. Moehle works regularly as a consulting engineer, offering advice and expert peer review on a range of subjects, and he has served on several code and guideline development projects. He is Honorary Member of the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California, member of the

College of Fellows of the Structural Engineers Association of California, and elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. RICHARD ALLEN

Richard Allen is the Director of the Berkeley Seismological Laboratory, and Professor and Chair of the Department of Earth and Planetary Science at UC Berkeley. He is an expert in earthquake alerting systems, developing methodologies to detect earthquakes and issue warnings prior to shaking. His group uses seismic and GPS sensing networks, and is experimenting with the use of smartphones. Testing of a warning system for the U.S. west coast is currently under way. Dr. Allen’s group also uses geophysical sensing networks to image the internal 3D structure of the Earth and constrain the driving forces responsible for earthquakes, volcanoes and other deformation of the Earth’s surface. His research has been featured in Science, Nature,

Scientific American, the New York Times and dozens of other media outlets around the world. He has a BA from Cambridge University, a PhD from Princeton University, and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Caltech. SHANNON HOLLOWAY

Shannon Holloway is the Director of the Capital Projects department at UC Berkeley. Shannon has worked in the Architecture/Construction/Engineering industry for over 20 years. His career started at a large local general contractor, and then transitioned into consultant project management. In these roles he managed many small and large projects, and excelled at managing large complex projects such as micro-electronics clean

rooms, healthcare facilities, research laboratories, biotechnology manufacturing and entertainment/cultural facilities. As the Director of Capital Projects he oversees the department that manages all construction projects on the Berkeley campus. He has a BS in Construction Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
