*The Reading of the Scripture 1 Samuel 1:4-8 (NRSV) Ms. Emma Sullivan

4 On the day when Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters; 5 but to Hannah he gave a double portion, because he loved her, though the Lord had closed her womb. 6 Her rival used to provoke her severely, to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. 7 So it went on year by year; as often as she went up to the house of the Lord, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat. 8 Her husband Elkanah said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? Why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons?”

Every Sunday, we will be looking for readers, who will assist in worship by reading the weekly scripture reading, before the sermon. If you would like to participate and serve, please sign-up by clicking the banner on www.haygoodumc.org, email: [email protected] or call the church office at 404-872-9613. Next Sunday, May 21st, will be "Bible Sunday" at Haygood! Not only will we

discuss the importance of the Bible to our faith, but we will have a special Bible

presentation during worship service. Some 70 years after the Bible was first presented by Haygood to Barbara (Tatum) Oliver, it will be reunited with Mrs. Oliver. The story behind

the re-connection is amazing and one that you will not want to miss. We look forward to

welcoming you on "Bible Sunday"!
