What is it?

• Hay festival is a festival of literature and arts

• It is an annual festival held in Hay-on-Wye for ten days from may to june.

About Hay

• It was devised in 1988 by Peter Florence

• It was described by Bill Clinton in 2001 as ‘the Woodstock of the mind’

• Since its inception, the festival was held at a variety of venues around Hay until 2005 when it moved to a central location just outside of the town.

• The festival is aimed at families

• There is a kids festival ‘hay fever’ which runs along side the main festival

• The main sponsor of the festival is The Guardian, which succeeding The Sunday Times in 2002

• The artistic policy is to share new visions of the world
