Rules and Regulations

EVERY CLASS OFFERED HEREIN WHICH IS COVERED BY THE RULES AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THECURRENT USEF RULE BOOK WILL BE CONDUCTED AND JUDGED IN ACCORDANCE THEREWITH.

All questions not covered in these rules and regulations shall be decided by the show managementwhose decision shall be final.

Every horse entered for competition will comply with the rules of the horse show management, butmanagement will, in no case, be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur, and it shall becondition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold this horse show and the officials and employees ofthe show blameless for any loss or accident to his horse, employees, equipment, which may occurfrom sickness, fire or otherwise.

Every class offered herein which is covered by the Rules & Specifications of the current USEF RuleBook will be conducted and judged in accordance there within.

All horses competing must be properly identified and must have a Registration Number fromUSHJA.

Prize money will be deducted from the total entry fees, any prize money in excess of the totalentries will be paid in the form of a check within 30 days of the close of competition.

The management reserves the right to refuse, accept conditionally, or to cancel any entries,disqualify any riders or exhibitors, prohibit entries and cancel award prizes without claims fordamages; to cancel or combine unfilled classes, or to reschedule classes after due notice toexhibitors; to change rings or rotate judges.

Exhibitors are notified that any act of discourtesy or disobedience to the judges or officials, on thepart of the owner, manager, rider, or groom shall disqualify the horse, and the owner shall forfeithis entry fee and other fees.

Show management reserves to itself the power to prohibit any person from attending or showing ahorse in the ring and to remove any groom or horse from the show without being liable forcompensation.

In accordance with the 1989 Federal Waste Tracking Act, which restricts the disposal of medicalwaste, bio-hazardous medical waste containers will be provided in the stable area. All exhibitorsand their agents are responsible for the proper disposal of this waste.

No person will be allowed in the show ring during the time of judging except the exhibitor andthose having official or requested duties to perform.

It is the tradition of the show that riders be correctly attired for the class in question, thatattendants be neatly dressed and the horses properly presented. Management may in its discretionbar any person from entering the ring if not suitable presented to appear before an audience.

2018 USEF Membership Statement : Life, senior active and junior activemembers shall be eligible to participate in all classes at Regular Competitions, EventingCompetitions at the Preliminary Level or above and Combined Driving Competitions at theAdvanced Level, Dressage, Reining and Vaulting Competitions and Endurance Rides. Anonmember may participate as a handler, rider, driver, owner, lessee, agent, coach or trainerat Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions, Dressage Competitions, ReiningCompetitions and Combined Driving Competitions upon payment of a $45 Show Pass fee.Participants in the following classes are exempted from the Requirements of this rule: 1)leadline; 2) exhibitions; 3) games and races; 4) classes for 4-H members; 5) walk trot(exception: Friesian performance FR222) and academy classes (academy classes areclasses limited to horses used regularly in a lesson program); 6) USDF introductory leveltests, pas de deux and quadrille classes; 7) NRHA Endorsed Reining Competitions. 8)Opportunity classes, 9) citizens of other nations who have proof, in English, of currentmembership in good standing of their own National Federation, 10) USEA beginner novicedivision; and 11) assistant handlers in Dressage Sport Horse Breeding classes.

Motorized Vehicle Statement –In accordance with GR901.29 Minors who do not have a valid driver’s license which allowsthem to operate a motorized vehicle in the state in which they reside will not be permitted tooperate a motorized vehicle of any kind including, but not limited to, golf carts, motorcycles,scooters, or farm utility vehicles on the competition grounds of licensed competitions. Minorswho have a valid temporary license may operate the above described motorized vehicles aslong as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid driver’s license. The parent(s), legalguardian(s), or individual who signs the entry blank as a parent or guardian of a minoroperating a motorized vehicle in violation of this rule are solely responsible for anydamages, claims, losses or actions resulting from that operation. Violations of this rulewill be cause for sanctions against the parent(s), guardian(s) and/or trainer(s) who areresponsible for the child committing the offense. Penalties may include exclusion of the child,parent(s), guardian(s), and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds for the remainder of thecompetition and charges being filed against any of the above individuals in accordance withChapter 6. Wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices for individuals with disabilitiesare exempt from this rule.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONSPlease note that not all classes/divisions may be offered at every show

LEADLINE SUITABLILITY & EQUITATION MHC “C” RatedOpen to riders who have not reached their 7th birthday and have not competed in any otherclasses in a USEF recognized show other than leadline. Entries may be asked to trot.Riders to be judged on elementary fundamentals of horsemanship. An adult is required tolead each entry.

WALK TROT HUNT SEAT 10 and Under(Equitation NEHC & MHC “B” Rated) (Pleasure 30 & 31 MHC “C” Rated)Open to riders 10 years and under who have not competed in any class requiring them tocanter or jump at any recognized show. Riders showing in this division may not compete inany short stirrup classes. Riders will be asked to walk and trot in both directions of the ring.They will be judged on position and ability to control their mount. Diagonals will beconsidered.

SHORT STIRRUP (Equitation and Hunter Divisions) NEHC “B” RatedMHC “AA” Rated Hunters “B” Rated EquitationOpen to riders 12 years of age and under who have never competed over fences exceeding18” in a recognized show. Riders showing in this division may not compete in any otherrecognized division or class in a show with fences exceeding 18” with the exception ofpleasure and Pet Type Pony classes. Course no to exceed eight fences, fences not toexceed 18”.

MODIFIED ADULT EQUITATION - NEHC “B” Rated MHC “B” RatedOpen to adult amateur riders who, as of Dec. 1 of the current show year, have not won sixblue ribbons at any recognized shows in Adult Equitation Classes.Fences 2'6”(EXCLUDINGModified Adult

CHILDRENS HUNTER SEAT EQUITATION NEHC & MHC “B” RatedOpen to exhibitors who are eligible for Children’s Hunter and who have never shown over acourse at a recognized show where fences were required to exceed 3' 0" . Fences for horsesand large ponies to be 2' 6" in height. Fences for small/medium ponies to be 2' 0" in height.

HUNTER DIVISIONSChampionship and Reserve shall be awarded to two of the top four horses that have acquired the mostpoints performing over fences. In addition to these points, only these horses shall receive points forribbons won in under saddle class. All over fences classes to be judged on performance and soundness.Jogging for soundness at judge’s discretion.

OPPORTUNITY LOW HUNTER (Unrated) 2.6”Open to all horse and ponies

CHILDREN'S/ADULT SPECIAL HUNTER 2'6 MHC “B” Rated”Open to amateur adult and junior riders. No professionals. Open to horses and ponies that have notjumped 3” or over in the previous year.OR riders that have not show at 3” or over in the previous year.Fences not to exceed 2'6”. No in and outs.

MODIFIED ADULT HUNTER 2'6' NEHC “C” Rated MHC “B” RatedOpen to adult amateur riders who, as of December 1st of the current show year, have not won six blueribbons at a RECOGNIZED show in Adult Equitation classes, including Adult medal Classes, butexcluding Modified Adult Classes. For amateurs who have won six blue ribbons, they are eligible forModified Adult if, as of December 1st of the current show year, they have not show in classes with fencesover 3' or higher within the past two show years. Fences not to exceed 2'6". Riders in this division cannotshow in any other recognized classes at the same show where fences exceed 2'6".

AMATEUR ADULT HUNTER (18-35Years) (Over 35 years)NEHC “B” Rated MHC “B” RatedTo be ridden by Amateurs who are no longer eligible to compete as Junior Exhibitors. Horse/Ridercombination is not eligible for any other MHC, NEHC, or USEF rated classes (exceptions: equitation r pleasure). Horse may be shown by a different rider in any other division or class at the samecompetition. To be judged on performance, soundness, manners, way of going, size of rider to mount,and suitability as an Adult Amateur Hunter. Height of fences 3’ spread not to exceed height of fence.

PRE-CHILDREN’S HUNTER DIVISION NEHC “C” Rated MHC “B” Rated Open toJunior riders who are eligible for Limit equitation over fences as of December of the current show year.Horses or ponies. Fence height 2' with no combinations. At the same show, the same horse/rider orpony/rider may not cross enter into Children’s Hunter Horse or Pony, Pony Hunters or any class wherefences exceed 2'3"

CHILDRENS HUNTER MHC “B” RatedTo be shown by Junior Exhibitors. Exhibitors 15-17 years of age must be eligible for intermediateequitation over fences as of December 1 of the current show year. HORSE- fences 3’PONIES- fences 2’ for small and medium ponies, 2’6” for large ponies.Children’s Hunter Classes must beheld in accordance with applicable USHJA Zone Specifications (see HU111.13)

PONY HUNTER NEHC & MHC “B” RatedTo be run in accordance with USEF rules.

HUNTER PLEASURE MHC “C” RatedOpen to all horse of hunter type ordinarily used for pleasure purposes with no limitations as to status ofrider. Shown at a walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. Light contact with the horse’s mouth isrequired.

PET TYPE HUNTER PONY NEHC “C” RATED, MHC “B” RATEDOpen to riders under 14 years of age. To be judged on manners, performance and quality at a walk, trotand canter both ways of the ring. Must have entered and shown in class# 45 to be eleigible for class 46

11. DOWNEAST MODIFIED AM/AD MEDAL Open to riders 18 years of age or older,competing on horses or ponies. Riders shall be required to perform over a minimum of six fences with atleast change of direction. Fence heights shall be 2’3”. 25% of contestants, at least 2 riders, shall be calledback for individual testing. Testing optional. (USEF Tests 1-8)

22. DOWNEAST AMATEUR ADULT MEDAL Open to amateur riders 18 years of age or older,competing on horses or ponies. Contestants shall be required to perform over a minimum of six fenceswith at least one change of direction. Fence heights shall be 2’6”-2’9”. 25% of contestants, at least 2 riders,shall be called back for individual testing. Testing optional. (USEF Tests 1-19).

23. MHC AMATEUR ADULT HUNT SEAT MEDAL Open to adult members of MHC. Allcontestants are required to perform over at least 8 fences 2’6” to 2’9”, with at least one change of direction.One or more individual tests of the top four contestants may be requested at the judge’s discretion. (USEF

Tests 1— 17). To fill a class at least four competitors must complete the course.

24. NEHC AMATEUR ADULT HUNT SEAT MEDAL Open to adult amateur members ofthe New England Horseman’s Council. All contestants are required to perform over at leasteight fences set at a height from 2'9" to 3' with a combination and two changes of directionafter the first obstacle. One or more individual tests of the top four contestants may berequested at the judge’s discretion. (USEF current tests 1-19). To fill a class, at least fourcompetitors must complete the course. .

25. ARIAT NATIONAL ADULT MEDAL To be shown over a minimum of eight fences 2'9" to 3' inheight, spread not to exceed fence height. The course may be either a Jumper or Hunter type course andmust include at least two changes of direction and a combination. Water obstacles (i.e.; water jump,liverpool) are not permitted. The top four riders are required to perform at least two individual tests fromUSEF Tests 1-19. An Open Numerical Scoring System must be used in the first round, with each rider'sscore announced at the completion of their round. There is no minimum requirement to complete the class.

26. MARSHALL & STERLING ADULT MEDAL Open to all members of the USEF or CEF whoare eligible to compete in the Amateur Adult Hunter section at this show. All competitors are required toperform over at least 8 fences 2’9” to 3’0”, spreads not to exceed fence height. The course may be either ajumper or hunter type course and must include at least two changes of direction and a combination. Waterobstacles not permitted. The top 4 riders are required to perform at least two individual tests from USEFTests 1—19. An open numerical scoring system will be used for the first round and scores announced atthe completion of their round.

38. DOWNEAST SHORT STIRRUP EQUITATION MEDAL Open to riders 12 years of ageand under, competing on horses or ponies. All ages (Short and Long Stirrup) compete together at thequalifying shows, but age groups will be divided at the finals. Riders must not never have shown overfences that exceed 18”. Riders shall be required to perform a minimum of six fences with at least onechange of direction. Fence height will be 18”. 25% of contestants, at least 2, may be called back forindividual testing. Testing optional, verbal recommended. USEF tests 1-8.

57. MHC HUNT SEAT MINI-MEDAL* Entry Fee: $40.00 Open to junior members of the MHCwho have not reached their 15th birthday and have not competed in classes in which entry is required tojump higher than 3’0”. All competitors are to compete over a course not exceeding 8 fences and not lessthan 6, excluding combinations, at a height not to exceed 2’6”. One or more individual tests may berequested at the judge’s discretion (USEF Tests 1-8). To fill a class at least four competitors must completethe course.58. DOWNEAST MODIFIED CHILDRENS MEDAL Open to riders 17 years of age andunder, competing on horses or ponies. Contestants shall be required to perform over a minimum of sixfences with at least one change of direction. 76. T.H.I.S. NATIONAL CHILDRENS MEDAL Open to Junior members of the USEF or CEF who havenever competed in a National Equitation Finals with fences at 3’6”. All contestants are required to perform over at least 8fences 2’9” to 3’0”, spreads not to exceed fence height, with at least two changes of direction and a combination. The topfour riders, or 20% of the first round competitors, whichever is greater, are required to perform at least two individual testsfrom USEF Tests 1– 19. An open numerical scoring system will be used in the first round with scores announced at thecompletion of the round.

78. MARSHALL & STERLING CHILDRENS MEDAL Open to Junior members of the USEF or CEFwho have never competed in a National Equitation Finals with fences at 3’6”. 83. MARSHALL & STERLING JUNIOR MEDAL Open to Junior Riders. To be shown over minimum of8 fences at 3'6” including a combination and at least two changes of direction after the first fence. Two or more tests of thetop four competitors are required. The same horse must be used in all phases. Only one rider per horse.Three riders mustcomplete the course in order for points to count. The rider must be a member in order for points to count toward qualifyingfor the Finals. May not be combined with any other M&S Medal

79. USHJA 3’3” JUMPING SEAT MEDAL. Open to Junior Active Members of the Federationand USHJA who have not reached their 18th birthday (per USEF rules).There are no cross entry restrictionsSee www.USHJA.org for more information. A minimum of three (3) riders must complete the course for points to count for this class.

80 Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3” Medal Open only to junior members of the USEF or EquineCanada who have not reached their 18th birthday in accordance with GR127 and who have never competedin any of the following National Equitation Finals with fences at 3’6”: ASPCA Maclay Finals, US Medal Finals, USEF Talent Search (East or West), WIHS Equitation Classic Finals, Jump Canada Medal Finals or theNorth American Equitation Championship. Riders who compete in a NHS 3’3” Medal Class may show in anyother classes for which they are eligible at the same horse show. Riders may not show in both the NationalHorse Show 3’3” Equitation Championship and the ASPCA Maclay Finals in the same competition year.Rider and trainer (or coach when applicable [see USEF GR108]) must be current members of the NationalHorse Show Association (“NHSA”).
