Der Hardgrove-Index (kurz HGI, von englisch "Hardgrove Grindability Index") ist ein Maß für die Härte von Kohle beim Mahlen. Die Härte wird in der Einheit Grad (°H) angegeben, beispielsweise 40°H oder 55°H. Je größer der Hardgrove-Index, desto einfacher ist die Kohle zu mahlen (desto höher die Mahlbarkeit). Fünfzig Gramm lufttrockene Kohle mit einer Körnung von 0,6 bis 1,2 mm werden in die Mühle eingefüllt und der Mahlkörper mit einem Gewicht belastet. Nach sechzig Umdrehungen des Mahlkörpers wird die zerkleinerte Kohle auf ein Prüfsieb gegeben. Aus dem Siebdurchgang D errechnet sich der Hardgrove-Index. Point Load Test A fast and convenient way to determine the strength and fracture toughness of an ore.  The Point Load Index can be used to simultaneously characterise rock for blastability and comminution processes. In a Point Load Test, a sample of rock is mounted between two pointed platens and pressure is applied until failure of the sample occurs.  The peak applied load is recorded and used to calculate the Point Load Index. Bond Ball Mill Index Test The tried and tested measure of ore grindability. A BBMWI test is a standard test for determining the Bond Ball Mill Work Index of a sample of ore. The BBMWI is a measure of the resistance of the material to crushing and grinding. It can be used to determine the grinding power required for a given throughput of material under ball mill grinding conditions. It is a 'locked cycle' test conducted in closed circuit with a laboratory screen.
