A re you interested in deepening your faith and finding a community of men to help support
you on your faith journey? If so, it is time to sign up for the next St. Pius X Men’s ACTS Retreat which will be held May 3-6, 2018. Online registration opened Sunday, January 14th at noon. Applica-tions for the retreat are available on the website at https://stpiusxchurch.org/acts-mens-registration.
ACTS is a parish-based retreat in which parishion-ers serve parishioners. The ACTS retreat, an acro-nym for Adoration, Community, Theology and Ser-vice, began in the 1980’s in San Antonio, Texas. The retreat’s goals are to strengthen our faith and its application in our daily life, to renew ourselves spiritually, to build strong, lasting friendships, and to grow in our relationship with our Lord, our parish, and one another. The ACTS weekend is presented by parishioners with support provided by our pastor, Fr. Steve LeBlanc.
Have you ever noticed how passionate some people are about their faith and won-dered what their secret was?
It’s likely that they have had a personal ENCOUNTER with Jesus. An encounter, a moment that can change the direction of our life, is when we realize that our faith is much more than just fulfilling our obligations, but rather, it is a life-giving relationship with a person - Jesus. We believe one way for these encounters to happen is through a prayer experience, where we can come together as a community to pray, hear a talk and worship Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration. Encounter nights will be offered on a monthly basis in the Spring and Fall. The first prayer experience will be held on February 1st with Paul George as the guest speaker.
"Being a Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an
event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction." Pope Benedict XVI

Welcome new members and visitors to St Pius X Parish. We hope you feel welcome and will participate in the many activities here whether you are a regular parishioner, a seasonal resident or just visiting. For families with babies, two quieting rooms are available in the nave of the church, toward the back. Large windows allow mothers or fathers to continue to see and participate in Mass, as you sooth the baby by rocking. Childcare is located in the St. Paul Room and is available to babies and young chil-dren, at the 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 5:00 p.m. Sunday Masses. For children 4 to 6 years old, Children’s Church is avail-able at the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Children’s Church allows children to hear the Word of God in a way that their hearts can un-derstand, so that they too can grow in their faith. Please ask a greeter for help in locating
these areas, as well as restrooms, water
fountains, or other areas of interest in our
church. We are so glad you have come!

First Communion 2018 This week, there will be a mandatory meeting on Thursday, January 25, 2018, for parents of children who will be making their First Communion in April. The meet-ing will be held in the Parish Life Center and will begin promptly at 6:00 pm. At least one parent must attend this meeting. Besides what the children will learn as part of their religious instruction at St. Pius School and PSR program, there will also be preparation taking place in the home for First Communion. At this meeting you will receive the materials needed for sacramental preparation at home.
PSR PSR will resume Monday, January 22, 2018. Second Collection Next Week Next week, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America. For many in Latin America and Caribbean, rural terrain and a lack of ministers are obstacles to practicing their faith. Your support to the collection provides lay leadership training, catechesis, priestly and religious formation, as well as other programs to help share our faith with those who long to hear the Good News of Christ. To learn more, please visit www.usccb.org/latin-america. Centennial News Sunday, January 21, 2018
Taking a Pro-Life Stand The U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion in
the infamous Roe v. Wade decision on Jan-uary 22, 1973. In a short span of days, 105 Lafayette Physicians, led by Dr. Zerben Bienvenu and others, wrote and signed a resolution stating their opposition to abortion and their resolve to preserve human life. Their advertisement read in part: “We main-tain that life DOES exist before birth. As physicians, we intend to fulfill our commit-ment to preserve that life.” The Diocese of Lafayette continues to respect, protect, and serve life from conception to natural death.
Centennial Indulgence An indulgence granted by Pope Francis can be
gained throughout this Centennial Year by all who visit the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and pray the Centennial Prayer (with the usual conditions for an indul-gence). Please see the Diocesan Webpage for more information. The Centennial Pray-er will be in the Cathedral beginning January 11th or you may print it from the webpage (available in various languages on webpage).
Engaged Couples Spend a weekend away from the cares and distractions of everyday liv-ing. Attend a Catholic Engaged En-counter Weekend. The weekend is
open to any engaged couple wanting to prepare for a deeper more meaningful life together in a marriage recognized by the Catholic Church according to its Church law. Upcoming weekend dates are March 9-11, and April 27-29.
