KRISHNA AND GOPASRI

A Story For You….

Bhagawan Sri Krishna was play-ing his flute.... One Gopasri took water from the river in her pot....she tried to lift it & keep it on her head, but could not do it.... She called Bhagawan many times, but Bhagawan Sri Krishna pre-tended as though he did not hear her.... Some how she managed to reach her home.... Bhaghawan Sri Krishna was wait-ing outside her residence.... He helped her in lowering the pot.... Then he himself took the pot & kept it in her kitchen.... She asked....'i called you many times on the river bed, when i was trying to lift the pot, but you seldom even looked in my direction.... Now how come you helped me to keep down the pot?.... You even lifted it & kept it in my kitchen'.... Bhagawan Sri Krishna laughed & said....'i will only unburden people.... I don't feel like participating when they burden themselves'.... This story is pregnant with a lot of meaning.... 'Master only unburdens'....

Shiva is the supreme exemplar of serenity! Shiva according to the Puranas, has a curious assortment of family members. Yet, each one is so calm and without agitation, that the Divine Family exists in peace and concord. Shiva has snakes on His arms, round His neck, on His head, around His waist! One of His sons, Kumara rides on a peacock, which attacks snakes; another rides on a mouse, which the snakes feed on! One son has the head of the elephant, which whets the appetite of the lion, which is the vehicle used by Durga, the consort of Shiva, who is so inseparable that she is the left half of the body of Shiva Himself. Nor is the lion friendly by nature to the bull, which Lord Shiva Himself has as His vehicle! Shiva has fire on the central point of His brow, and water (the river Ganges) on His head - incompatibles both! Imagine how loving, how cooperative the various components have to be to render life on Kailash smooth and happy? It all depends on the mind and its proper discipline. The weapon of love will

disarm every opponent. Love begets love. It will be reflected back, it will have only love as reaction. Shout 'Love'; the echo from the other person's heart will also be in ‘Love’.

Mind - Circus Bike Cage

Mind, I attach no reverence to you. Or, in the least any importance.

So, thoughts do you feel humiliated? As time moves, you will be belated.

Sans mind, how do I care for my family? Become Care and watch it happen naturally!

Sans thoughts, how do I love my near and dear? Become Love and live with no Karmic smear.

In this volatile space,

Your ‘I’ falls with no trace!

There are two aspects of God or Brahma: (1) the Unmanifested (Nirgun) and

(2) the Manifested (Sagun). The Nirgun is formless, while the Sagun is with

form, though, both denote the same Brahma. Some prefer to worship the

former, some the latter. As stated in the Gita (Chapter XIII) the worship of the

latter is easy and preferable.

As man has got a form (body, senses, etc.), it is natural and easy for him to wor-

ship the God with form. Our love and devotion do not do not develop, unless we

worship Sagun Brahma, for a certain period of time, sand as we advance, it

leads us to the worship (meditation) of Nirgun Brahma.

So, let us start with Sagun worship. Image, altar, fire, light, sun, water, Brahma

are the seven objects of worship; but Sadguru is better than all these. Let us, on

this occasion, bring to our mind the form of Sai, Who was non-attachment In-

carnate, and Who was a resting-place for His devotees. Our faith in Words is is

the Asan; and our Sankalpa (determination to accomplish puja) is the abandon-

ment of all our desires.

Some say that Sai was Bhagwad-bhakta (devotee of the Lord) others say He was

a Maha—bhagwat (a great devotee); but to us He is God Incarnate. He was ever

forgiving, never irritable, straight, soft, tolerant and content beyond comparison.

Though, He looked embodied (as having the form), He was really dis-embodied,

emotionless, unattached and internally free.

The Ganges on its way to the sea, cools and refreshes the creatures affected

with heat, gives life to the crops and tress, and quenches the thirst of many.

Similarly, saints (Souls) like Sai, while they live their own, give solace to and

comfort to all.

Lord Krishna has said that the saint is My soul, My living image, I am He or He

is My pure form (Being). This indescribable Shakti or Power of God, known as

Pure Existence, Knowledge and Bliss, incarnated in the form of Saint in Shirdi.

The Shruti (Taittiriya Upanishad) describes Brahma as Pure Bliss. This, we read

or hear in the books, but the devout people experienced this Brahma or Bliss in

Shirdi. Baba the Support of all, required no prop or Asan from anybody.

He always used a piece of sackcloth for His seat, which was covered with a small

mattress by His bhaktas and had bolster, placed by them, rest as His back.

Baba respected the feelings of His devotees and allowed them to worship Him as

they liked.

Some waved Chamar or fans before Him, some played instruments, some

washed His hands and Feet, someothers applied scent and Chandan, some gave

betelnut with leaves, and some others offered Naivedya.

He looked like living in Shirdi, He was present everywhere. This

all-pervasiveness of His was daily experienced by His devotees. Our humble

prostration to this all-pervasive Sadguru.’

GOSPEL OF RAMAKRISHN A- MALLIKA VADLAMANI

THE ELEPHANT GOD AND THE MAHOUT GOD

God dwells in the hearts of all – holy and unholy, wicked and good, righteous

and unrighteous. But we should learn to not have any dealings with the bad

and the wicked. We may just talk to them, if absolutely necessary, but

otherwise stay aloof. There was once a holy man in a forest who taught his

disciples that they should learn to see God in all beings and to bow low before

them all. One day, a disciple of his was gathering firewood in the forest when he

suddenly heard a cry, “Get out of the way! There’s a mad elephant on the run!”

All except the disciple took to their heels. Ignoring the warning cries of the

mahout, he stood still, bowed to the animal, and started to sing its praises. The

elephant seized him with its trunk, threw him aside, and went on its way. Upon

being asked why he did not heed the words of the mahout and run away like the

rest, the disciple answered that he was only following the teachings of his Guru

to see God in all beings and was bowing down to the “elephant God”. His

teacher replied, “Yes, my son. But in this case, you should have heeded the

warnings of the “mahout God”, instead of submitting yourself to the “elephant

God.” All are manifestations of the Divine, but we should learn to know which

manifestations are safe and which are not, for our own well-being. God is

present even in a tiger, but one cannot go and embrace it!

EAT MANGOES, DO NOT COUNT THE LEAVES

Two friends went to a mango orchard. One started counting the number of trees

and the mangoes on each. The other took permission from the owner, plucked

some ripe ones, and began to eat and enjoy them. Who is the wiser of the two? If

you actually eat the mangoes, your hunger is satisfied; what is the point in

counting trees and leaves? The vain man of intellect wastes time trying to find

out the whys and hows of creation, while the humble and wise man, through his

devotion to the creator, enjoys His gifts of supreme bliss.

PATANJALI YOGA SUTRA —KAVINAYA

Patanjali Yoga Sutra – “Samadhi Pada”

(continuation from Feb issue)

We saw that the mind is affected by five kinds of thought forms, and that the

first one was by direct perception.

The second one is misconception. Misconception is when we conceive one thing for another. In the darkness of the forest, one may mistake a rope as a snake or

vice versa.

Even when there is nothing happening in front of us, delusion or imagination

can be created in the mind with mere words. We constantly tell stories to others. We tell them, “I went there, did this and then that happened”, and thus creating imagination or delusion in others minds. Others do the same to us.

This is the third form of thought that affects the mind.

The fourth type is sleep. We think we have no thoughts during sleep. However sometimes we sleep well, sometimes we have disturbed sleep, and so on. When we wake up, we do know how we slept. That in itself is a thought and it also

impacts the mind.

The fifth and final type that Sage Patanjali talks about is memory. When something is happening, when we experience it, it creates impressions in the mind. It then stays at the bottom of our mind, until it gets triggered by something else. When it is triggered, it comes to the surface and it gives us either painful or painless state. Memories can happen in two ways: when we

are awake, or when we are asleep. The memories come as dreams in our sleep.

Thus, there are five kinds of vrittis or thought forms that affect us, causing the painful or painless state. Now, in order to have our inner peace shine through,

these vrittis must be controlled. How do we control these vrittis? It seems next to impossible. However, Sage Patanjali has nicely narrowed down the state of the mind into two: painful or painless. And he has also categorized what kinds of thoughts affect the mind and causes those two states. Now that we know “what”

to control, Sage Patanjali explains “how” to do that next.

At a highest level, he gives us two ways: Practice, and Detachment. We will

start looking at them in detail in the next issue.

SRI SAI IN OUR DAILY L IFE —SANKARKUMAR

SRI SAI SATCHARIT IN OUR DAILY LIFE.– 3

BENEFITS OF READING SAI SATCHARIT!

While giving His approval to Hemadpant to write HIS life events, Sai blessed him and said as follows: “Do it fearlessly! Hearing My life history will give happiness, remove obstacles and offer protection. Diseases will be cured. Peace will befall upon them. If one says SAI, SAI, he will be relieved of Maya.” As various jobs are entrusted with various people in a holy endeavor, Hemadpant was entrusted by Baba with writing the holy Satcharit. Before embarking on this sacred task, Hemadpant narrates how Baba showered His love on him like a mother shows on her child . On his retirement he went to Shirdi and with the help of Anna Cinchanikar got the blessings of Baba and was included in His darbar. There was a man called Rohilla who used to chant the Holy Quran in loud voice which was disturbing the villagers’ sleep. When they went to complain about him to Baba, Sai said that Rohilla [who is a bachelor] is doing so to get away from his wife! Baba actually meant that one’s bad habits are like his wife. Hemadpant concludes with Baba’s blessing words: “ Whatever you do, wherever you go, know that this SAI knows it all! I am the creator, protector and destroyer! I will

be with those who never forget me .” On hearing this, Hemadpant decided at once that Baba is his savior and surrendered at His feet. He requests all the readers to pay close attention to these stories, which will help them immensely

and relieve all worries.

Bow to Sri Sai! Peace be to all!

LIFE APPLICATION

1. Know that reading or listening to Sai SatCharit will fulfill all our desires and

save us from troubles.

2. Bad habits attach ourselves firmly and one should strive by any means to get

rid of them.

3. By combining the above two, it would be obvious that Baba knows what we

do all the time and if we are sincere to Him, He will protect us.
