MARKET COMMENTARY

The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rose 163.68 points or 0.44% to 37,145.45. The Nifty 50 index rose

56.85 points or 0.52% to 11,003.05.

The Nifty dropped in early trade to hit the day's low of 10,889.80. It staged a sharp rebound in the morning

trade. After flirting with 11,000 mark in the intraday, the index finally managed to end above that level.

Broader market was buoyant. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.97%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.92%.

The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 1605 shares rose and 933 shares fell. A total of 181 shares remain

unchanged.

Tech Leads Stocks Lower; Yields Extend

Push Higher: - Technology, health care

and consumer shares led U.S. equities

lower. Yields on most Treasury notes

rose. Investors are awaiting the ECB’s

policy decisions on Thursday and those

next weeks by the Federal Reserve and

Bank of England as they assess how

much monetary easing may be looming.

On the foreign-trade front, China

removed one more hurdle for foreign

investment into its capital markets on

Tuesday.

U.S. Dollar Inches Up After Job Openings

Decline: - The U.S. dollar moved up

modestly on Tuesday as job openings in

the U.S. fell for the second-straight

month.

Oil Prices Hit 6-Week Highs Buoyed by

Optimism on Output Cut Extension: - Oil

prices rose to their highest levels in six

weeks on Tuesday, bolstered by hopes

that OPEC and its allies may agree to

extend an agreement to curb output in

order to support prices. Prices were on

track for a fifth straight day of gains

after Saudi Arabia's new energy minister

on Sunday reiterated a commitment to

production cuts by the OPEC+ grouping

made up of the Organization of the

Petroleum Exporting Countries and non-

members including Russia.

Gold Prices Find a Bottom Just Below

$1,500: - After four days of declines,

gold prices appeared to find a temporary

bottom just below $1,500 a troy ounce

on Tuesday as a combination of weak

data and unsettling words from China

capped appetite for risk assets. Prices

for gold delivery on the Comex

exchange bottomed earlier at $1,494.45

a troy ounce, down some 4% from the

six-year high that they hit last week.
