Dear Phillipa,

Private & Confidential

In relation to your fax of 7 August I contacted a Prosecutor in Geelong who I know quite well. He said there would be no member of the force who would be prepared to provide the information to us which we require in relation to this. It might occur in relation to other matters but these sorts of matters are so sensitive that we would only be able to get the information by application to the Chief Commissioner's office.

There is a . publication which I . have seen, somewhat provocatively, promulgating the details of convi('.tions of people involyecl in the sort of activity being discussed in this matter. I will t1y and get a copy of it.

I am not sure whether Davo's recollection is correct. I started at Glamorgan in February, 1970. I lived in the "cell" which was a small room in the upstairs passage, west of the stairway leading down to the back door. There was just enough room for a bed and a desk. Living on campus at the time also was Jeff Stagg, in the room overlooking the oval, Davo, in the room overlooking the tennis cou1t and kindergarten and Roger Matheson, in a room looking over the kitchen and kindergarten. do not remember the sisters name. She soon left and was replaced by Jo Arch (an English woman who stayed for only two years)who was herself replaced by Debbie (later Pahor).

I~BIM lwas on the staff he was living off campus but my recollection was at that stage that he had left the employment of the school. From time to time however he was around and my

REDACTED recollection was that he was employed as a development officer by the l;i!•1@1. I doubt very much whether he would have obtained such stratospheric status as being liiij•t@lij•lof the REDACTED

If that was the case Charles Fisher had not yet arrived and it was still in the time of Tommy.

I left at the end of 1973. Charles had arrived, although I don't recall if he had departed by that stage. Davo had married. I occupied his room. Jeff Stagg departed for England, then Corio and marriage, and his room was occupied by Gillies. Matheson had departed and his roorh was occupied by Roadknight (also a worry). Bruce and Anne Wicking had gone on to form their hobby in East Malvern and Roger Morton had taken over as deputy. He spent one year in the flat in the grey house and then the next year occupied the downstairs of the red house. The boarders, depleted in numbers as they were by then (I think only about 15 or 16) moved across to the red house verandahs. I occupied a flat at the rear of the red house. Gillies and Roadknight remained where they were and John Nevett (from Ballarat, now a solicitor in that town) occupied my room. I think about this time Roadknight went marching.

Accordingly, whilst ~was hanging around, I don't think he was on the staff at that time. I would like to debate the point with Davo although he may have been at Corio. We should probably now seek to interview Roger Morton to see what he knows of these matters.

Gillies, I think, was an appointment by BRAC, and Road night an appointment by EVB so far as it might be relevant.

Lorraine O'Donnell later came in as the matron, I think. She has produced to me, in later times, innuendo relating to both Road night and~ and it is from her that I, perhaps, have received a great majority of the scuttlebutt.

REDACTED The grade 2 teacher in those days was Bron Schoefl:ler and later (I think 1972 and 73) •

, (parent of-Year 12 Hermitage and-Year 7 Connewarre) was teachmg grade 1, located in the room, now lavatories, adjacent to what was then the dinning room, now the staff room. Joan Woodcock taught grade 3 for years and Margot Wood, I think taught grade 4 or 5. She left and might have been replaced by Roadknight. Jeff Stagg was replaced in his room by Gillies, but Gillies had been employed for at least one year before he came to live on campus. Jeff Stagg was replaced in Grade 6 by Roger Mo1ion.

John Nevett (Fraser, Nevett, Solicitors, Ballarat) may be worth interviewing. He was only young at the time but may have seen and heard more.

As soon as I get the book I shall forward you the appropriate entry if any, good luck.

Kind regards,
