The excitement is building and plans for the 21st An-nual Long Island Fall Festival at Heckscher Park are well underway for Columbus Day Weekend.

The Long Island Fall Festival at Huntington has be-come a premier event for family fun and is the largest event of its kind in the northeast. Hosted by The Hun-tington Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Hun-tington, this exciting event attracts tens of thousands of families from all over the Tri-State Area. There is some-thing for everyone and the highlights of the Festival include three stages of live entertainment, a world class carnival and two international food courts. More than 300 craft, promotional, retail and not-for-profit vendors line the streets of Prime and Madison adjacent to Heck-scher Park, as well as exhibit within the grounds of Heck-scher Park.

The Festival begins Friday afternoon October 10th with the carnival and food court. Following the Open-ing ceremonies at 6 pm, the festivities continue with live entertainment until 10 pm. The festival is open Saturday and Sunday, featuring street vendors from 11 am to 6 pm with the carnival, food courts and live entertainment un-til 10pm. On Monday, Oct. 13th the carnival, food court, entertainment and several vendors are open from 11 am to 5 pm within the park. The Fall Festival features fun-filled events and activities for the whole family. There is FREE parking at the Huntington LIRR station, with a $1 round-trip shuttle service to and from the festival on Sat-urday and Sunday, from 11 am to 5 pm. Admission to the festival is FREE.

On Sept. 21, the Sherwood-Jayne House hosts the 24th annual Long Island Apple Festival, presented by the Society for the Pres-ervation of Long Island Antiquities, The Three Village Historical Society, and Homestead Arts from 11 am-4:30 pm. Activities include colonial games such as a tug-of-war, the opportunity to create an apple-head doll, pony rides and apple relay races. A food historian will conduct an open-hearth colonial cooking dem-onstration. Participate in an apple-pie baking contest, listen to traditional music and enjoy food concessions. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children, seniors and society members. 55 Old Post Road, Setauket. 692-4664.

On Oct. 19, the Huntington Historical Society hosts its own apple festival. Enjoy traditional demonstrations, such as butter churning and candle dipping, as costumed interpreters prepare for winter. Play old-fashioned games, crunch on delicious, locally grown apples and dance to fantastic live music. Children may create seasonal crafts and make life-sized scarecrows, while everyone gets a taste of harvest foods, including candy apples and pies. The historic Dr. Daniel W.
