The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation and contractor Nan, Inc. hosted a town-hallmeeting this week at the Kalihi Kai Elementary School. Business owners and residents fromKalihi, Iwilei, and the Downtown area came to hear details of Nan's upcoming utilities
relocation work in advance of guideway construction forthe Honolulu Rail Transit Project.
The relocation work will involve moving water, sewer, gas, phone, and communication lines throughout theProject's City Center section, starting in Kalihi andrunning through to the Ala Moana Center. The work isexpected to begin in the coming weeks.
Nan, Inc. willperform the City Center Utility Relocation work underan indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract. The IDIQ calls for the issuance of short-term specificwork orders giving HART more of a "hands-on"approach to project oversight.
HART and its contractors will work to mitigateconstruction impacts and will communicate with areabusinesses and residents to let them know about thework planned near their locations during both the utility relocation and guideway constructionto follow.
Safety during construction for both the crews and the public is HART's highest priority.
