Ellis, a wealthy lumberman of Basking Ridge, N, J., was dis-charged from custody to-day. Thecounty prosecutor told the court thatCarl's confession had been provenfalse in every way.

Ellis was shot two years ago Willi®sitting at dinner by somebody whofired a shot through the window. Herecovered, but has been able to giv®the police no clue to his assailant.
