Come and join us on December 18 for the Kindergarten, Primary and Junior Christmas Concert being held in the gymnasium. Students have been working very hard at learning songs and dances to celebrate the upcoming winter and holiday season. Families are welcome to join us as we watch our students perform.

The Kindergarten Concert will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the Primary (Grade 1 to 3) Concert will commence at 11:45 a.m. At 2:05 p.m. the Grade 4 to 6 students will take the stage for the Junior Concert. The Grade 8 Band will perform throughout the Junior Concert.

Child-Related Services in the Durham Area

Harold Longworth is hosting a Food & Toy Drive and a Mitten & Sock Tree. If you are interested in supporting either of these initiatives, please send items to school with your child. Alternatively, if you would rather drop the items off yourself, please leave them in the office. There will also be a donation box at the doors during the Christmas Concert on December 18. Donations can be made from December 3 to 19, and will benefit Bethesda House and The Salvation Army.

For the fifth year running, Harold Longworth is offer-ing a Ski and Snowboard Club to interested students in Grades 5 through 8, starting in January.

The club will run for six weeks. A bus will deliver the group to Brimacombe and bring us back to the school at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Students will receive a lesson as part of their enrolment. Prices are quite reasonable and include a half hour lesson for each student. Lessons are rated to the students’ abilities. No previous skiing or snowboarding experience is required.

Anti-BullyingMeasures

At Harold Longworth we take the issue of bullying extremely seriously and work hard to confront bullying of any kind. We also recognize the differ-ence between bullying and conflict.

Conflict is a natural part of social interaction and, when dealt with in a positive way, it can lead to creative prob-lem solving and better understanding.

While we work hard to eliminate bullying, we understand that conflicts happen. We work equally hard to teach and model appropriate conflict resolution strategies.

Students have the right to be safe at school and we do all we can to make our environment a great place for everyone.

If you feel you need to report any issues of bullying or inappropriate con-flict resolution, please contact Mr. Beers or Ms. Davidson at (905) 623-3682

To ensure maximum teaching and learning time in the classroom, please re-member that students need to be present and on time every day.

If, however, your child will be absent or late for any reason, please use the Safe Arrival Absence Reporting System. Sim-ply call 1-844-434-8119 or log in to the Parent Portal at studentabsence.kprdsb.ca, or download the SchoolMessenger (one word) app on your device.

We also utilize the Safe Arrival au-tomated system to contact parents who have not reported their child absent. Safe

Arrival continues to call multiple contact numbers until a child’s absence has been con-firmed or until an allot-ted time has passed.

Yard Supervision

Please be advised that our Long-worth staff arrive onto the school yard at 9 a.m. to begin supervision duties. This is the start of a 15 minute window during which time you can drop-off your children. We encourage parents and children to walk to school (rather than drive) for many reasons, including the safety challenges that develop as our park-ing lot fills with cars.

Again, we kindly remind people with dogs to please leave them at home when walking with your chil-dren to school.

In an effort to help keep our school clean, we are asking that all students bring indoor shoes to wear at school – especially with wet, winter weather on its way.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Although we have had milder than usual temperatures in Novem-ber, colder weather is definitely on its way. Please continue to dress your children appropriately.

Safe Arrivals & Departures

Please take the time to enter your child’s absence through the voice prompts, so that it does not continue to call. At this time, school staff will follow up.

Please contact the school if you have any questions. Thank you for your coop-eration!

Anaphylactic Allergies at Harold Longworth

This is just another reminder that we need to stay constantly vigilant about the food that we bring into our school.

Please remember that we have children in our school who are extremely fatally allergic to nut products. Please continue to help us to keep our students safe by making certain that all snacks and lunch items do not contain any nuts or nut products of any kind. Thank you!
