Harlington HEADlights Week 17: 19 th January 2018 Dear Parents and Carers, We start this week with a report from Ms Barnes, and the students who won last term’s Scholarship Reward day: Scholarship Trip – 12 th January 2018 Last week the Top 10 SPI achievers in Years 7 and 8, who had earned their place on the Scholarship Reward trip during the Winter Term, were taken to the Science Museum and IMAX cinema. Whilst at the Science Museum pupils enjoyed the ‘Wonderlab’ gallery which entailed live experiments and other interactive activities involving scientific phenomena. At the IMAX cinema they then watched the film ‘Our Beautiful Planet ’ with 3D glasses! Within a pupil report on this trip some of the pupils commented: “I found the chemistry experiments very interesting, and I enjoyed the fact that we could take part too” Dibya Shrestha 8M3 “I loved the slides in the Wonderlab, which demonstrated the effect of friction on different surfaces” Abid Faizi 8M3 “I really loved the IMAX cinema where we got to watch Our Beautiful Planet in 3D! The documentary also included interesting facts about the World , including what lightning strikes look like from space, it is the most beautiful thing ever!” Rishana Sareskumar 7B2. You’llbeawarethattherearealotofhealthwarningsinthepressatthemoment,abouttherisksassociatedwithdrinkssuchas‘RedBull’and‘Monster’foryoungpeople.I’m pleased to say that we banned these drinks severalyearsago,andwe’regratefulforthesupportofparentsinthismatter. You’ll know from the ParentHandbook thatweconfiscatethesedrinksifseen,andwillalwaysprovidestudentswithwaterifwedoso.
