Group Riding Expect “Single File” on many of our mountain roads You may need to give those in front of you some space,

especially heading into mountain passes. If you need some room, let the rider behind you know by

giving the “slow down” signal

Mountain Riding Gear Make sure you are in the appropriate gear when heading into a

curve or steep hairpin Shifting in a turn, especially a steep hairpin, can cause problems

such as a stall. You need to make sure your gear is appropriate for climbing out of

the turn after the turn is made Don’t Panic! We all get tense or panic when heading into a surprise turn or we

misjudge a turn as we approach! You know your skill level Head over chin – lean into the turn Slide a cheek! If you are not familiar with these techniques, now is not the

time to try to change your riding style.

Ask Questions Don’t be afraid to ask questions Know what to expect so you can assess your ability compared

to the ride ahead. Ask questions during the ride, know what to expect on the next

leg Don’t be afraid to tell your Road Captain about your areas of

opportunity We want to lead the group based on the abilities of the riders

so speak up. Avoid surprises and enjoy your ride. You are responsible for your safety!
