seems to come from the Harahvaita of Iran. According to academia Croat comes from Xrovat(Hrovat) which comes from the Slavic Xorvat (Horvat) which comes from the Indo/Slavic Xarwat(Harvat) and this is ultimately traced to Persia and the name Harahvaiti. Harahvaiti however isthe corrupted name for the great Vedic Goddess Sarasvati, the mother of Sanskrit, the greatriver of the Rig Veda and the Goddess of learning.

The Persians have a tendency to replace a Sanskrit S with a Persian H, and so the wordHarahvaiti is actually Sarasvaiti which is Sarasvati. An example of this tendency can be seen intheir word for week which is Hapta, an obvious corruption of the Sanskrit Sapta meaning thesame. Their name for the Sun is Hvar which is once again a corruption of the Sanskrit Svarmeaning the Sun. In the Avestan, the seven rivers are described as Hapta Hendu which is quiteobviously the Sanskrit Sapta Sindhu meaning the seven prominent rivers of India. And finally wehave the Iranian rivers Harahvaiti and Horayu which are the Vedic rivers Sarasvati and Sarayu.

Sarasvati is one of many words which are cognate with the Croatian language, Medu in Croatiameans honey and this comes from the Sanskrit Madhu, a name for Krsna. The RussianMedvedev and the Croatian Medvjed both mean "honey eater" a name for the bear and they allcome from the Sanskrit Madhava, a name for Krsna which means one who intoxicates likehoney  -  Sanskrit  -  Kada  -  Croatian  -  Kada  -  When  -  Sanskrit  -  Kuta  -  Croatian  -  Kuca -  House  -  Sanskrit  -  Matr  -  Croatian  -  Mater  -  Mother  -  Sanskrit  -  Phena  -  Croatian  - Pjena  -  Froth  -  Sanskrit  -  Sabha  -  Croatian  -  Soba  -  Room  -  Sanskrit  -  Tata  - Croatian  -  Tata  -  Father  -  Sanskrit  -  Tamas  -  Croatian  -  Tama  -  Dark  -  Sanskrit  - Tada  -  Croatian  -  Tada  -  Then  -  Sanskrit  -  Jiva  -  Croatian  -  Ziva  -  Alive  -  Sanskrit  - Da  -  Croatian  -  Dar  -  Gift  -  Sanskrit  -  Dadati  -  Croatian  -  Dati  -  Give  -  Sanskrit  -  Krs -  Croatian  -  Krs  -  Ruin   -  Sanskrit  -  Griva  -  Croatian  -  Griva  -  Mane

Apparantly the oldest known record of this Croatian name, Harvat, was found in theMittani/Hurrian documents written by King Tusratta some 3,500 years ago. In the documents herefers to his Kingdom as Huravat Ehillaku. It should be noted however that the King who spokethis 3,500 year old inscription is a Vedic/Hindu King, Tusratta being a corruption of Dasaratha,Dasa Sanskrit for ten and Ratha Sanskrit for chariot. King Dasaratha, according to academia, was one of many Vedic Kings who ruled the Kingdom of Mittani. The chronology of the Kings ofMittani are as follows  -  Kirta  -  Suttarna  -  Baratarna  -  Parsatatar  -  Saustatar  -  rtadhama  - Suttarna ll  -  Artashumara  -  Dasaratha  -  Mativaza  -  Sattuara l  -  Vashasatta  -  Sattuara ll. All of these names are Sanskrit/Vedic. Suttarna is Sanskrit for good son  -  Dasaratha isSanskrit for ten chariots  -  Parsatatar is simply Parasu  -  he who rules with the axe  -  Mativasais Sanskrit for the abode of prayer  -  Ritadhama is Sanskrit for the law of dharma andArtashumara is Sanskrit for the winds of righteousness. Its a simple fact that the Kingdom ofMittani was ruled over by Vedic Kings and this is rarely disputed by mainstream academia. Ontop of this we also have the capital of Mittani which was called Vasukhani, Vasu being Sanskritfor wealth and Khani being Sanskrit for mine  -  a great mine of wealth. So if the history ofCroatia is intimately connected with Iran and Persia and in particular Mittani and the Hittites, one should take into consideration the Vedic influence behind it all. The Croatian name for God is Bog and this once again comes from the Sanskrit Bhaga which isBhagavan, the Supreme Lord  -  We see a nice example of this in the capital of Iraq, Bhagdad.Bhag, like Bog, comes from the Sanskrit Bhaga meaning God and Dad comes from the SanskritDadati meaning "gift" Bhagdad is a Sanskrit word meaning gift of God  -  Sanskrit  -  Tanuka  - Croatian  -  Tanak  -  Thin  -  Sanskrit  -  Niska  -  Croatian  -  Niska  -  Beads  -  Sanskrit  -  Zara -  Croatian  -  Zar  -  Fervid  -  Sanskrit  - Gir  -  Croatian  -  Gor  -  Mountain  -  Sanskrit  -  Lip  - Croatian  -  Lipjep  -  Paste  -  Sanskrit  -  Loka  -  Croatian  -  Luka  -  Province/Port  -  Fromthis Sanskrit Loka we get the English words location and local  -  Sanskrit  -  Bhavati  -  Croatia -  Bivati  -  To exist  -  Sanskrit  -  Znata  -  Croatian  -  Poznata  -  To know  -  Sanskrit  -  Pluta -  Croatian  -  Pluta  -  Floats  -  Sanskrit  -  Zvana  -  Croatian  -  Zvana  -  Called  -  Sanskrit  - Kesa  -  Croatian  -  Kosa  -  Hair  -  Sanskrit  -  Tapati  -  Croatian  -  Topiti  -  Melt  -  Sanskrit  - Prati  -  Croatian  -  Protu  -  against  -  Sanskrit  -  Mus  -  Croatian  -  Mis  -  Mouse  -  Theorigin of the word Mouse comes from Sanskrit Mus which then becomes the Olde English Mus -  the Dutch Muis  -  the German Maus  -  and finally the English Mouse.

Istra is a magical region of Croatia, it is known as the "Terra Magica" and the "Magic Land". Itsname comes from an equally magical source known as the Illyrians, an Indo/European peoplewho populated these lands some 4000 years ago. The regions of Istra and its surroundingislands read like a page from a Sanskrit dictionary. Rasa  -  Rupa  -  Rukavac  -  Krsan  - Sukosan  -  Daruvar  -  Kali  -  Duga Uvala  -  Dugresa  -  Isa  -  Siveric  -  Kalik  -  Kalinic  - Kalinovaca  -  Budimir  -  Rajakovic  -  Kuje  -  Sava  -  Budava  -  Umag  -  Dvigrad  -  Radovani -  Mandal  -  Loka  -  Predloka  -  Radoboj  -  Pavacini  -  Sveta Nedelja  -  Ruda  -  Rava  -  Sit  - Stanjel  -  Bogdanovici  -  Antignana  -  Grisignana  -  Galignana  -  Lisignana  -  Dignano  - Visignano  -  Hvar. Now of course taken on their own they deserve nothing more then a cursoryraised eyebrow, however when we see so many Sanskrit/Vedic names grouped together in oneregion, and when this is combined with the obvious influence of Sanskrit on the Croatianlanguage, there can be no doubt that in the past Vedic India was extremely influential in thisregion. The island of Hvar is said to be the number one hotspot in Europe, seeing more sunshine thananywhere else. Its name "Hvar" is a Persian word meaning Sun, in the Avesta scriptures, Hvaris the name for the God of the Sun. This once again reflects the relationship between Croatiaand Persia, however it should be observed that Hvar is a corruption of the Sanskrit Svarmeaning Sun or heaven, and once again reflects the tendency of the Persians to swap aSanskrit S for a Persian H. We also see this Svar in the Slavic folklore, the Sva in Svarogmeaning Sun or heaven and also Mater Sva, the mother of Svarog, the mother of heaven andthe Goddess of the Sun. Viden is a Croatian word which means to see, it comes from the Sanskrit Vid which means tosee, to know. From this Sanskrit Vid we get the German Wit which means "to know" we get theLatin Videre which means "to see" and we get the word Video which means to record  -  Sanskrit  -  Bhratr  -  Croatian  -  Brat  -  Brother  -  Sanskrit  -  Bala  -  Croatian  -  Bela  -  White -  Sanskrit  -  Budh  -  Croatian  -  Budenja  -  Awaken  -  Sanskrit  -  Dve  -  Croatian  -  Dva  - Two  -  Sanskrit  -  Tri  -  Croatian  -  Tri  -  Three  -  Sanskrit  -  Nabhasa  -  Croatian  -  Nebasa -  Heaven  -  Sanskrit  -  Dasa  -  Croatian  -  Deset  -  Ten  -  Sanskrit  -  Plavate  -  Croatian  - Plovati  -   Swim  -   Sanskrit  -  Priyate  -  Croatian  -  Prijate  -  Please  -  Sanskrit  -  Priminati  - Croatian  -  Priminuti  -  Perish  -  Sanskrit  -  Prastara  -  Croatian  -  Prostor  -  Expanse  - Sanskrit  -  Nas  -  Croatian  -  Nas  -  Nose  -  Sanskrit  -  Srava  -  Croatian  -  Slava  -  Glory

Bogdanovic is an interesting placename of Croatia, its name means "gift of God". Bog comesfrom the Sanskrit Bhaga meaning God and Dan is the Sanskrit Dana meaning gift. Bogdan andBogdanovic are also popular names, Bogdanovic meaning son of Bogdan. Anyone fortunateenough to possess one of these names may be interested to know that they share their namewith the capital of Iraq  -  Bhagdad. Bhagdad also means "gift of God" and it also shares thesame Sanskrit source, Bhag coming from the Sanskrit Bhaga and Dad coming from the SanskritDada and Dadati meaning gift  -  gift of God. In Sanskrit we have the word Sveta which means light, bright, white, and in the Vedas we havethe heavenly region of Svetadvipa. Dvipa means island and Sveta means milky or white,Svetadvipa means an island surrounded by a milky white ocean. From the Sanskrit Sveta weget the Croatian Sveta which means the same, light, bright and by extension it also means pure, saintly. In Russia we have Svetlana which means light and in Czechoslovakia we have Svetlawhich also means light. In the Slavik tradition we have the God Svetovid, which is two Sanskritwords, Sveta meaning light and Vid meaning to see. This Slavik deity Svetovid is predominantlywhite and bright with white hair, white beard, white clothes and white horse, all reflecting thiswhite, bright, light nature of his name Sveta-Vid. Throughout Croatia we see this Sanskrit Svetain many place names such as Sveta Marija  -  Sveta Nedelja  -  Sveti Durd   -  Sveti Ivan  - Sveti Juraj  -  Sveti Kris  -  Sveti Lovrec  -  Sveti Martin  -  Sveti Peter  -  Svetvincent. The Croatian word for home is Dom, it comes from the Sanskrit Dam meaning the same. This isreflected in the English words Domestic, meaning "of the home" and Kingdom, the home of theKing and in Sanskrit we have Dampati which means the home of the Lord  -  Sanskrit  -  Bhrza -  Croatian  -  Brza  -  Swift  -  Sanskrit  -  Val  -  Croatian  -  Vala  -  Wave  -  Sanskrit  -  Pad  - Croatian  -  Pad  -  To fall  -  Sanskrit  -  Bhagavan  -  Croatian  -  Bogovan  -  Divine  -  Sanskrit -  Rasa  -  Croatian  -  Rosa  -  Dew  -  Sanskrit  -  Snusha  -  Croatian  -  Snasha  -  Daughter inlaw  -  Sanskrit  -   Dvara  -  Croatian  -  Dvari  -  Door  -  Sanskrit  -  Vesha  -  Croatian  -  Ves  - Clothes  -  Sanskrit  -  Treta  -  Croatian  -  Treta  -  Third  -  Sanskrit  -  Sus  -  Croatian  -  Susi -  Dried  -  Sanskrit  -  Sthanaka  -  Croatian  -  Stanica  -  Station  -  Sanskrit  -  Sveta  - Croatian  -  Svetla  -  Light  -  Sanskrit  -  Muska  -  Croatian  -  Misica  -  Muscle  -  This SanskritMuska is the origin of the English word Muscle  -  Sanskrit  -  Mus/Muska  -  Latin  -  Mus  - English  -  Muscle.

The coastal town of Umag may also reflect the Croatian/Iranian/Vedic relationship. Umag wasoriginally called Magus, a name most relevant to the Iranians whose priests were known asMagi, men of magic, and Magus which in Latin meant wizard. Magus was once part of Illyriawhich was known as a place of magic, Istra comes from the word Illyria and is known as “TerraMagica” the magical land. As usual the grey academics paint a different story explaining thatMagus is a Celtic word meaning “fertile land”. While this is true it does not necessarily apply toUmag. The Celts were intimately connected to the Persian Zoroastrians, they knew the esotericmeaning of Magi and Magus, in fact the name Druid has the same meaning as in “seer” and weeven find this word in the Bible which describes the Magi as a gifted seer and prophet. A Celtic King was also known as Magus and his name did not mean “fertile land” it describedhim as a man of great wisdom. The Persians and Croatians were obviously intimate and sowere the Druids and the Magi. Magus, the original name for this coastal town known as Umag, may have meant something much more than simply “fertile land” it may have reflected themagic of Istra and the Illyrians. The source of these names however, is Vedic/Sanskrit, Magiand Magu are both Sanskrit words which means magical, indeed they are the source of theword magical, just as the Vedas are the source of the Zoroastrian religion. The Croatian word for water is Voda, this comes from the Sanskrit Uda meaning the same. From the Sanskrit Udaka we also get the Russian beverage Vodka which is Russian for water  - Udaka  -  Voda  -  Vodka  -  Sanskrit  -  Nipatati  -  Croatian  -  Napadati  -  Attack  -  Sanskrit  - Nivahati  -  Croatian  -  Nivajati  -  Support  -  Sanskrit  -  Adatta  -  Croatian  -  Neudatta  - Unmarried  -  Sanskrit  -  Purva  -  Croatian  -  Prvo  -  First  -  Sanskrit  -  Madhvad  -  Croatian -  Medved  -  Honey eater  -  Sanskrit  -  Mrtaka  -  Croatian  -  Mrtac  -  Dead  -  Sanskrit  - Nana  -  Croatian  -  Nana  -  Mother  -  Sanskrit  -  Dina  -  Croatian  -  Dan  -  Day  -  Sanskrit  -Parsati  -  Croatian  -  Prasiti  -  Sprinkle  -  Sanskrit  -  Rudhira  -  Croatian  -  Rud  -  Red  - Sanskrit  -  Sedati  -  Croatian  -  Sjedati  -  Sit  -  Sanskrit  -  Bhajate  -  Croatian  -  Bogatiti  - Wealthy  -  Sanskrit  -  Vartate  -  Croatian  -  Vrtati  -  Rotate  -  Sanskrit  -  Patha  -  Croatian  - Put  -  Path  -  From this Sanskrit Patha which means course, flight, road, way, we get theEnglish word path.

In Sanskrit the word for knowledge is Jnana, from Jnana we get the Greek Gnosis meaningknowledge, and from Gnosis we get the English word Knowledge, Jnana being the source ofthe word Knowledge  -  Jna-na  -  Gno-sis  -  Kno-wledge. In Croatia, on the enchanted land ofIstra, there are regions which bear the name Jnana, Grisignana, Lisignana, GalignanaAntignana, Dignano and Visignano. As usual there is little information on these places exceptthey are all very ancient, being inhabited for up to 7000 years. Kali is an island in Croatia, thename is an obvious Vedic/Hindu name, known throughout the world, yet there it is a Croatianisland and with it we have regions such as Kalinovaca, Kalik and Kalinic. Budava was once themain port of Istra, in Sanskrit Budava means awaken. In Croatia we have the Drava river, a major river which flows from Italy and travels throughAustria, Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary. In ancient times it was known as the Dravus, so namedby the Celts. The source of the name however is Sanskrit, Drava being Sanskrit for flowing, fluidity and stream. The Croatian river Rasa has a name which is very much related to VedicIndia, Rasa is Sanskrit for taste, nectar, essence, love. In the holy town of Vrindavan, India, theGopis, who are great devotees of Lord Krsna, dance with the Lord, and this is known famouslyas the Rasa dance, expressing the highest Rasa  -  love of God. The river Sava is a major riverof Croatia, its name in Sanskrit means "water" and "pouring out". The Sava is a tributary of theriver Danube which also flows through Croatia, Danube named after the Vedic Goddess DeviDanu. Other rivers such as the Ruda, Kupa, Korana, Krka, Una, can all be found within theSanskrit dictionary, Ruda in Sanskrit means noble, high. Stan in Croatia means place, residence, the source of this Stan is the Sanskrit Sthana whichmeans province, abode, place, domain, region, state, land. We see this Sthana being used as asuffix for many countries such as Turkistan, meaning the land of the Turks and the sameapplies to Kurdistan  -  Uzbekistan  -  Kazikstan  -  Kyrgyzstan  -  Pakistan  -  Tajikistan  - Afghanistan  -  Sanskrit  -  Nava  -  Croatian  -  Nov  -  New  -  Sanskrit  -  Sarika  -  Croatian  - Sraka  - Songbird  -  Sanskrit  -  Dirna  -  Croatian  -  Dirati  -  Tear  -  Sanskrit  -  Trnaka  - Croatian  -  Trnjak  -  Thorn bush  -  Sanskrit  -  Laghu  -  Croatian  -  Lagan  -  Light  -  Sanskrit -  Linayati  -  Croatian  -  Linjati  -  Dissolve  -  Sanskrit  -  Purna  -  Croatian  -  Puni  -  Full  - Sanskrit  -  Vrka  -  Croatian  -  Vrkolak  -  Wolf  -  Sanskrit  -  Pus  -  Croatian  -  Pusti  - Release  -  Sanskrit  -  Sada  -  Croatian  -  Sada  -  Now  -  These are just a few of the manywords from the Croatian language which are cognate with Sanskrit. For those in need ofsomething more than a kind of phonetic resonance, an etymological, morphological andphilological explanation is given by Professor G.S.Rayall. His book "Croatian and Sanskrit : acommon heritage of words" can be viewed on this link  -    http://www.indoeuropeanetymology.com/?p=82

“The original name of the Indo/Iranian Goddess was Sarasvati “She who possesses waters”. InIndia she continued to be worshipped by this name, which she gave there to a small but veryholy river in Madhyadesa (Punjab) whereas in Iran Sarasvati became, by normal soundchanges, Harahvati, a name preserved in the region called in Avestan Harakhvaiti and known tothe Greeks as Anacosia, a region rich in rivers and lakes. Originally, Harahvati was thepersonification of the great river which flows down from the high Hara into the sea Vourukasa, and is the source of all the waters of the world, and just as the wandering Iranians  called thegreat mountains near which they lived Hara, they gave Harahvaitis name to the life giving riversand their Indian cousins did the same”. A history of Zoroastrianism  -  the early period  -   MaryBoyce. "But it was more faithfully preserved by the Zoroastrians who migrated from India to thenorthwest and whose religion has been preserved to us in the Zind Avesta, though in fragmentsonly. The Zoroastrians were a colony from northern India". The science of language  - Professor Max Muller. "The oldest actual contact, as the Zagreb linguist Radoslav Katicic has pointed out in a recentcolloquy dedicated to Indo-Yugoslav relations, is to be found in the primeval religion of theSlavs, which was by origin Indian, partly through Persian intermediation. However, this fact, proved by the analysis of the expressions for deities, is common to all the Slavonic peoples.".India and the Yugoslavs, a survey of the cultural links  -  Ivan Slamnig  -  Lecturer Departmentof Comparative Literature Faculty of Arts, Zagreb University http://www.indoeuropeanetymology.com/?p=82 If anyone wishes to comment please scroll to the bottom and click "Submit comment".
