ForewordMeeting expected service levels in heterogeneous storage environments that include both SAN and NASimplementations is becoming increasingly difficult. Varying management products increase the burden onIT staff to adequately administer these differing technologies. NetApp Filers KM for PATROL offers monitoringand reporting capabilities integrated to the PATROL console for creating a common management platform foradministering all networked storage in your environment. This enables you to easily meet all your storageservice-level requirements while improving operational efficiency.

By monitoring all storage assets within a centralized management console, you can respond quickly toperformance problems, easily determine capacity requirements, and effectively plan for network expansions.

NetApp Filers KM for PATROL has been designed to monitor NetApp Filers performance metrics and usagestatistics. The software actually completes the range of hardware components monitoring features providedby BMC Hardware Sentry.

Installing NetApp Filers KM for PATROLThis section gives you details to help you get ready to install NetApp Filers KM for PATROL. It tells you whereto obtain the product packages, and helps you understand all the prerequisites to be met before installationin order to ensure an optimal functioning of the KM.

Packages

The NetApp Filers KM for PATROL packages are available on the BMC Software Web site and the SentrySoftware Web site.

There are two packages, each of which can be used to install NetApp Filers KM for PATROL on every PATROLcomponent (Agent, Console, etc.):

· For Windows systems: senna_WINDOWS_1600.exe

· For UNIX and Linux systems: senna_UNIX_1600.tar

Each package can be used to install NetApp Filers KM for PATROL on every PATROL component: Agent,Console, Console Server etc.

The NetApp Filers KM for PATROL packages are designed for use with the BMC Software Installation Utility(formerly known as Thorium). They need to be merged with the latest available version of the BMC SoftwareInstallation Utility. Please see instructions.

Extracting the Setup Files

Like most Knowledge Modules for PATROL, you need to install NetApp Filers KM for PATROL on the followingcomponents of your PATROL architecture:

· Every managed system with a PATROL Agent

· Every PATROL Console (Classic) that will show hardware-related information and alerts

· The Console Server

· PATROL Central – Web Edition

Getting the BMC Software Installation Utility

In order to install NetApp Filers KM for PATROL, you need the latest version of the BMC Software InstallationUtil ity. You can download the latest Installation Util ity from the BMC Software EPD (electronic productdownload) from: http://webapps.bmc.com/signon/content/logon.jsp on the BMC Software Website, or fromthe NetApp Filers KM for PATROL page on the Sentry Software Website

Choose the appropriate package depending on the platform you plan to install NetApp Filers KM for PATROL:

· For UNIX/Linux systems: ins_ALL_<version>.tar

· For Windows systems: ins_WINDOWS_<version>.exe

The packages are valid for all the PATROL components: Agent, Console, Console Server, etc.

Place the Installation Util ity package in the same folder as the NetApp Filers KM for PATROL packages.

Installation Procedure

Install ing NetApp Filers KM for PATROL is an automated process managed by a wizard. The wizard goesthrough the necessary steps to install NetApp Filers KM for PATROL and all fi les associated with it. You aresimply prompt for the product's folder location and the product/components to install.

Browse to the bmc_products folder where the fi les have been extracted (both NetApp Filers KM for PATROLand the Common Installer).

· On Windows: Launch the setup.exe program

· On UNIX: Launch the setup.sh script

Since the installation of a PATROL Agent on a NetApp Filer is not permitted, the PATROL Agent needs to beinstalled on a different machine (Windows, Linux, or UNIX) than the one on which the monitoring of NetAppFiler(s) will be performed. However, make sure that both machines are connected to the same network andare able to communication through the SNMP protocol.



To install NetApp Filers KM for PATROL

1. Allow the perl.exe program listen on this port: Click Unblock.

2. The welcome screen of the installer appears. Click Next to continue.

3. Read the l icense agreement, cl ick the Accept option and then click Next to continue.



4. Select Install the products on this computer now and click Next to continue.

5. Specify the BMC Software products folder. See the BMC Software documentation for more informationabout the BMC Software products folder. Click Next to continue.



6. Select Default. Install ing NetApp Filers KM for PATROL does not require any customization. Click Next tocontinue.

7. Select Managed System to install NetApp Filers KM for PATROL on a PATROL Agent.Select the Console Systems role to install NetApp Filers KM for PATROL on a PATROL Classic Console.Select Common services to install NetApp Filers KM for PATROL on the Console Server or on PATROLCentral – Web Edition.Click Next to continue.



Select as many options at required.

8. Check the NetApp Filers KM for PATROL box to install the KM (it should be selected by default). ClickNext to continue.

9. Review the installation parameters and click Start Install to launch the installation procedure.



10. The setup program displays the actions performed and indicated the percentage of completion. Once theinstallation complete, cl ick Next the view the installation results.

11. The wizard displays the installation results.Click View Log to display a detailed log of the installation procedure. Click Next and then Finish to exitthe setup program.



12. Click the Finish button to complete and close the installation wizard.

A Help button in available at each step of the procedure. Click to display the installation online help. The Exit buttonallows you to stop the installation procedure.

14Uninstall ing NetApp Filers KM for PATROL


Uninstalling NetApp Filers KM for PATROLUninstall ing NetApp Filers KM for PATROL is an automated process managed by a wizard. The wizard goesthrough the necessary steps to remove NetApp Filers KM for PATROL and all fi les associated with it. You aresimply prompt for the product's folder location and the product/components to uninstall.



To uninstall NetApp Filers KM for PATROL

1. Locate the Uninstall folder under the BMC products directory (typically under C:\Program Files\BMCSoftware, or /opt/bmc):

§ On Windows systems, launch uninstall.exe

§ On UNIX, launch uninstall.sh

2. Specify the BMC Software products folder. See the BMC Software documentation for more informationabout the BMC Software products folder.



3. To uninstall the KM, select NetApp Filers KM for PATROL.

4. Click Start Uninstall to run the un-installation program.



5. A page displays the l ist of products/components processed and the percentage of completion. ClickNext to continue.

6. A page displaying SUCCESS indicates that NetApp Filers KM for PATROL is now uninstalled.
