AIM OF THE PROJECT

The objective of the proposed project is to realize an

open-end winding induction motor based multilevel

inverter.

To drive three phase induction motor using dual 2-level

inverters.

INTRODUCTION

What is an inverter?

Converts DC to AC power.

Vintage inverters realized with SCRs.

Nowadays BJT,MOSFET and IGBT replaced SCR.

Inverter does not produce any power, power is provided

by DC source.

Switching devices of each phase leg are switched

complimentarily.

Pole voltages can assume two values (𝑉𝑑𝑐/2 and 0).

SPWM is most popular control scheme for 2-level

inverters.

MULTI LEVEL INVERTERS AND

FEATURES

MLI produces nearly sinusoidal output.

MLI controls lower order harmonics.

It is realized from number of smaller DC voltage sources.

Consists of power semiconductor and capacitive voltage sources.

Can generate multiple-step voltage waveform.

No.of level = no.of voltage values generated byinverter.

Multilevel voltage source inverter are used in variablespeed drives.

MULTILEVEL INVERTER WITH OPEN-

END WINDING INDUCTION MOTOR

Open-end winding is obtained by opening the neutral point of the stator windings.

Three-level inversion achieved by feeding the open-end winding from both sides with two 2-level inverters.

Two key techniques used as control scheme

1)Sine Triangle PWM (SPWM)

2)Space Vector PWM (SVPWM)

It uses two 2-level inverters (inverter-1 and inverter-2).

If both the inverters are fed with symmetric DC link, the configuration will act as a 3-level inverter.

Each inverter is capable of assuming 8 states.

Total 64 space vector combinations are possible for dual inverter drive.
