Students will use the abstract computerized portrait as a basis for a bas relief sculpture by creating a simplified drawing utilizing the geometric shapes in the portrait. Students will invent line patterns and textures by drawing/creating line designs pressed into the metal foil. Students will demonstrate their understanding of colors (warm/cool) by choosing and using a planned color scheme.

Students will demonstrate basic knowledge of music theory elements- note reading, time signatures, key signatures, accidentals. Students will demonstrate ability to play major, minor, and chromatic scales. Students will demonstrate necessary and proper posture, breathing, and tone production while at school and during home practice. Students will demonstrate ability to recognize markings within a score to determine dynamics, articulation, style, tempo and phrasing. Students will demonstrate ability to be aware of intonation, balance, and blend in ensemble performance. Students will demonstrate proper care and maintenance of their instruments and of the school's equipment. Students will correctly produce a tone and apply the physical sequence in practice sessions at home. Students will be able to transpose for their particular instrument and play a variety of concert scales. Students will be exposed to and utilize alternate fingerings for their particular instrument. Students will continue to develop specific music reading skills. Students will begin the process of critical listening with regard to balance, blend, intonation, tone quality, musical style, phrasing, cultural context and recognition of the leading voice. Students will continue to attain range and technical facility through the practice of tone production and skill-building exercises. Students will continue to develop self-guided techniques that encourage and allow them to self-correct and build confidence in their abilities. Students will gain recognition from public performance which enhances student pride, self-esteem, and self-confidence. Students will exhibit increasing technical facility in tone production, intonation, breath control, posture and articulation.
