Arrays

Watch the videos ‘36 Counters to revise using arrays to solve

multiplication problems

Using the Grid Arrays sheet in Google Classroom, represent the

following number sentence as arrays:

3 x 9 = 7 x 4 = 6 x 7 =

4 x 6 = 8 x 3 = 4 x 8 =

5 x 8 = 9 x 4 = 5 x 3 =

6 x 6 = 8 x 7 = 9 x 7 =

Example:

3 x 4 = 12

Challenge:

Using objects in your home, create 4-5 different arrays using the

multiplication sentences below. You could use Lego, pasta, blocks,

pencils – Try to be creative!

Health

PDH

Think about and in your own opinion, answer the following

questions:

When is a person healthy? (eg when all 4 areas of health are

balanced).

How can I influence my health? (eg our lifestyle choices,

attitudes/values, heredity and behaviour, nutrition, physical

activity, drug use and relationships influence our health).

What other factors influence my health? (eg physical

environment {air, land, water and human impact}, social

relationships, economic – money, job; political – government).

Why is your health a balancing act? (visualise a tight rope walker

at a circus or a gymnast on a beam; your health changes with

age; certain events in your life, sickness etc)

Students make up an acrostic poem for the term ‘health’. For

example:

H ealthy relationships

E nergy

A balanced diet

L ots of physical activity

T o be part of a community

H appy and well

Reading

Revise your understanding of “Making Connections” by watching the

“Making Connections” video.

What down the three different types of connections we can make and

write a sentence to explain what they mean (definition).

Read the text “Tia’s Tantrum” or click here to read along with Mrs

Ngo.

What do you think about when you read this text? Do you make

connections with how Tia is feeling? Explain your connection you

made when you read the text. You can be creative as you like and

record yourself explaining your connection or write a paragraph about

your connection. Start your sentence with, “When I read the text,

“Tia’s Tantrum”, I thought about....

Share your connection with a partner or family member/carer.

Compare your connection to see if your partner may have had the

same connections or something very different.

Extension: Complete the making a connection questions on “Tia’s

The Commutative Property of Multiplication

Just like addition, when multiplying numbers, two numbers may be

multiplied in any order and the product will be the same. 2 x 3 is the

same as 3 x 2 – Both these problems will have a product of 6.

Reading

We are now looking at the reading strategy: Summarising.

Watch this video on the summarising reading strategy. Stop the video at

3:30 or keep playing if you want to have a go at the summarising activities.

Read the text “Bumps in the Night” aloud

Read the comprehension questions below to help understand what

information you are looking for in the text:

Who is the main character? Describe them in 2-3 sentences

Where is the story set?

What does the main character want?

What is the problem?

Does the main character solve the problem? How?

Write your own summary of the story.

Don’t forget to include these things in your summary:

1. Who, what, where, when, why and how

2. What happens in the beginning, middle and the end.

To help you write your summary, you can use the summarising table

on Google Slides and share this with your teacher.

Animal Life Cycles

A numbat is an Australian marsupial that lives in south western

Western Australia. They are diurnal, unlike most other Australian

Harcourt Public School 12 Stage 2 Online Learning Activities

marsupials which are nocturnal. They feed on marsupials during

the day. They spend their nights hiding in logs and burrows from

predators.

Use the ‘Numbat Life Cycle’ poster to answer the following

questions:

1. Use the branching key from last week’s lesson. What

classification of animals is a numbat?

2. Look carefully at the life cycle and the pictures. What stage

of the life cycle is meant by gestation? (Hint: The gestation

period for humans is 9 months).

3. How big is a numbat at birth?

4. Where does a baby numbat spend the first 3-4 months of

their lives?

5. When is a numbat ready to leave the burrow and live by

itself?

Choose any animal and research the life cycle of your chosen

animal. Create a Google Slides presentation to show the life cycle

of the animal. Use a different slide for each stage of the life cycle

(the changing slides can represent the arrows in a drawn life cycle).

Try and name the stages of the life cycle and explain the

characteristics of that stage.

Remember to use your plan and elaborate using descriptive words to write an interesting orientation. Continue writing your complication. Make sure there are events leading up towards the complication.

Give it to someone in your house to read and see if they can predict how the problem will be resolved.

in any combination.

For example:

We use this law to rearrange numbers and make multiplying easier. This

rule does not work with division.
