Your learning activity
Spelling – See Appendix 1 for Term 2’s Spelling Words
Whiteboard/Homework book Write your spelling words on a whiteboard or in your homework book. Remember Look, Cover, Write, Check. Next, look up the meaning for the words you don’t know and try to say a sentence with the word in it.
Reading for enjoyment. Your goal today is to find a comfy spot at home or out in the backyard to read a new book
from the Premiers Reading Challenge list with a family member. Make sure you have a
blanket and a pillow to help you both relax.
Ask your family member to go to the following website on their mobile phone so you can
both listen to “Giraffes Can’t Dance” by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees.
The safe link is: https://safeshare.tv/x/ss5e994868bde81
Do you think you could play some music, close your eyes and move to the music? Maybe
you could go first and then your family member could go second. Close your eyes and
feel the music move your body.
Writing Complete the Handwriting worksheet for the letter i I. See the Appendix for your sheet. Challenge: Can you make 2 more sentences that have many words starting with the letter i? Write these sentences into your homework book.

PDH - Staying Safe and Being Responsible at School
Now that you are back at school for ONE day a week, it is important that we learn some
more ways to be safe and responsible at school.
It is important that you:
1. Wash your hands before you start your learning, before you eat your lunch, after
you go to the toilet, after you blow your nose – wash them with soap and water
for 20 seconds. Let’s practice counting to 20.....1, 2, 3, 4, 5...
2. Bring your Water Bottle to school each day because our bubblers will be closed.
So, go and get it now and put it near your bag ready for your school day.
3. Bring your pencil case so that you use your own equipment. Go and sharpen
those pencils and make sure everything is in it. Next, put it into your school bag
ready for school.
4. Keep your distance so that you have two arm lengths between you and the
other person. Extra space is needed when you are sitting on the floor, lining up
and sitting at tables.
5. Don’t come to school if you are sick – please don’t come to school if you are unwell. Instead rest so that you get better and do your learning at home for that week. We will see your smiling face the next time you come to school. Make sure your family calls the school to let us know that you are staying at home because you are unwell so that we can put this reason onto the school roll for you.
Your job today is to make a poster that will show people what they need to do. Draw your
poster and keep it near your school bag to remind you of what we all need to do.
We are looking forward to seeing you act safely and responsibly at school. Can’t wait to
see you.

Spelling – See Appendix 1 for Term 2’s Spelling Words
“Jump On The Spot” Spelling Activity- Spell each word aloud as you jump on the spot- one letter per bounce. Then rest after all of your bouncing with a cold drink of water.
Reading activity – New words Your goal today is to learn some new words by listening to the story “The Journey Home” written by Alison Lester. Ask a family member to play this story on their mobile phone. The Journey Home story To be successful you will need to: 1. Look at the matching words and pictures worksheet. They are all mixed up.
2. Read each word and think about what it means.
3. Cut out all of the boxes then match and paste each picture with the correct word into
your homework book.
4. Practise reading your new words to a family member or carer.
Writing - 1st step is to plan your writing. Go to a new page in your book to plan a procedure on ‘How to wash your hands’. Before you plan your writing, go to the sink and begin to wash your hands. Ask yourself, what is needed to wash your hands? Next watch how you do it. Think about what you did first, second, third and fourth etc. Next, go to your book and write the title. After that, write down the things you needed to wash your hands. Then draw a picture for each step you did to wash your hands. For example, draw a picture of turning on the tap and put the number 1 next to it. This drawing plan will help you to write the procedure in tomorrow’s lesson.

To be successful in this lesson you will be able to:
• Explain what makes motion easier?
• Explain what makes motion harder?
• Explain what you can change to make the motion easier?
What is motion? Motion is movement of an object from one place to another.
Experiment: Motion of your school bag
1. Empty your bag and pull it towards you on the table. 2. Empty your bag and push it away from you on the table. 3. Fill your bag with objects and pull it towards you on the table. 4. Fill your bag with objects and push it away from you on the table. 5. Push the full bag on the grass OR cement. 6. Pull the full bag along the grass OR cement. 7. Empty your bag again and push it on the grass OR cement. 8. Pull the empty bag on the grass OR cement.
Answer the following questions in your homework book: 1. Was the EMPTY bag easy or hard to pull on the table? Why? 2. Was the EMPTY bag easy or hard to push on the table? Why? 3. Was the FULL bag easy or hard to pull on the table? Why? 4. Was the FULL bag easy or hard to push on the table? Why? 6. Was it easier or harder to move the bag on the table OR on the grass/cement? 7. Number patterns are a list of numbers that follow a sequence.
Number patters may increase. This means the numbers become bigger and we skip count
forwards.
For example:
10, 13, 16, 19. This number pattern is increasing, and we are adding 3 each time.
24, 34, 44, 54, 64. This number pattern is increasing, and we are adding 10 each time
Number patterns also decrease. This means the numbers become smaller and we skip count
backwards.
For example: 20, 18, 16 14. This number pattern is decreasing, and the numbers are becoming
smaller. We are counting backwards by 2’s
Harcourt Public School 6 Stage 1 Offline Learning Activities
Year 1 Activity
Your activity today is to complete the following decreasing number patterns in your homework
book:
• Start at 16 and count backwards by 2’s (e.g. 16, 14...) all the way down to 0
• Start at 20 and count backwards by 3’s (e.g. 20, 17...) all the way down to 2
• Start at 39 and count backwards by 4’s (e.g. 39, 35...) all the way down to 19
• Start at 50 and count backwards by 5’s (e.g. 50, 45...) all the way down to 0

Your Learning Activity
Watch the video of “The Dot” on YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKCsqbiCxE8
1. On a blank piece of paper you will need to trace a circular object like a small plate or pot
to make your own ‘dot’.
2. Colour in your dot. There is no right or wrong way to create your dot but be as creative
as you can. Here are some tips- WATERCOLOUR- make small ‘puddles’ with the colours
so they start to mix together. Sprinkle salt over the watercolour paint to create a spotty
texture. PAINT: Use a fork to scratch patterns into the paint or apply the paint with a
sponge for an interesting texture. PENCILS/CRAYONS-take your dot outside and colour in
over different surfaces like concrete and leaves to give your tot an interesting texture and
pattern. COLLAGE- cut out pieces of different paper to stick on your dot. There are no
mistakes!
3. Share your creative artwork with your family. Describe to your family how you created
your piece of art. What did you use to make it? How did you make it? How long did it take?
What parts do you like? What parts would you change for next time? Well done for being
creative.

Your learning activity
Spelling – See Appendix 1 for Term 2’s Spelling Words
Practise your spelling words by going onto Spelling City. Memory Game - Write each word onto two sets of cards or pieces of paper. Mix them up and turn them over on the ground so you can’t see the word. Next, play a memory game with a family member. Every time a card/paper is turned over the person needs to read the word. If they can’t read the word, they can not win the cards. The winner is the person who found the most pairs. Enjoy.
Reading activity – Missing words. Your goal today will be to practise reading and writing your new words. You will be successful when:
1. Read each sentence on your missing words worksheet. 2. Read the words at the bottom of the page. 3. Write the missing words into the spaces. The first letter of each word has been
written for you. Paste your worksheet into your homework book. 4. Read your sentences to a family member or carer. 5. Celebrate with a High Five when you are done.
Writing – Checking your writing. Read your procedure ‘How to wash your hands’ to a family member and ask them to actually follow the procedure as you read out each step. Evaluate your writing by asking yourself these questions: Did you leave anything out? Were the steps in the correct order? Is there something you would do differently in your next attempt at writing a procedure? Mark your own work by writing down your feedback to yourself for next time. How could you improve your work for next time? What did you do really well? Congratulate yourself on your achievement.
Recess Break
Pretend to wash hands and forearms – can be soft or vigorous, or a mixture of both.

Area -
In this lesson we are learning to measure the amount of area of a surface.
To be successful you will be able to:
• Use informal units to measure the area of a variety of surfaces.
• Cover surfaces using an informal unit.
Recap – Area is the space inside a shape. When we measure the area of a shape, we
measure how much space is on the flat surface.
Harcourt Public School 8 Stage 1 Offline Learning Activities
Activity:
To do this activity you will need to:
• Print and cut out the square bears attached (see Appendix).
Year 1
You will be using informal units (these do not have numbers on them to measure an
object). Informal units are the same size as each other. The square bears attached are
examples of informal units you can use to find the area of a shape. We are using squares
to measure because they do not leave any gaps when they are placed beside each other.
Your activity is to find an object around your house with a flat surface. For example, a small
table (square or rectangle), a book, iPad/laptop or a piece of paper.
You will need to cut out the square bears and use these to measure an object around your
house – remember to make sure the surface you find is flat and square or rectangular in
shape.
Once you have done this, draw up a table in your workbooks and write the object you
measure and in the next column write how many square bears it took to cover the entire
surface of the object.
Example of how to draw it up in your workbook:
Object Number of square bears
Side table 10
Year 2
You will be using informal units (these do not have numbers on them to measure an
You will need to cut out the square bears and use these to measure an object around your
house – remember to make sure the surface you find is flat and square or rectangular in
shape.
Once you have done this, draw up a table in your workbooks and write the object you you
will measure, then a column to estimate how many square bears you think will cover the
object and in the last column write how many square bears it took to cover the entire
surface of the object.
Example of how to draw it up in your workbook:
Object Estimate Actual number of square bears
Side table
12 10
Book 6 4
iPad 4 6
Harcourt Public School 9 Stage 1 Offline Learning Activities
Once you have completed the table you will need to compare by writing down the object
with the largest area and the object with smallest area.
For example:
• Largest Area – The side table with 10 square bears.
• Smallest Area – A book with only 4 square bears.

Your Learning Activity
Geography- Exploring Australia’s landscape environments.
In this lesson we are learning what a desert is and locating the Australian deserts on a map
of Australia.
To be successful you will be able to
• define what a desert is
• locate 5 Australian deserts on a map
A definition of a desert is: Deserts are places that don’t get much rain and are very dry.
1. Copy the meaning of the word desert and draw a picture of a desert in your homework
book.
2. Using the map of Australia with the deserts shown, label the 5 Australian deserts on the
blank map of Australia. (Tanami Desert, Simpson Desert, Great Sandy Desert, Gibson
Desert, Great Victorian Desert).
3. After you have labelled the 5 deserts on the map, colour the words you have labelled in
brown to show the desert names.

book from the Premiers Reading Challenge list with a family member. Ask your family member to go to the following website on their mobile phone so you can
both listen to “The Runaway Hug” by Nick Bland and Freya Blackwood.
The link is: https://bit.ly/3c5G60o (zero then the letter o)
Who in your family is going to get a great big hug from you today? Make sure it is the
biggest hug you can give.
Writing Year One Punctuation Activity
In today’s punctuation activity you will read each sentence and then rewrite the sentences
putting in the capital letters and full stops.
Remember when you write a sentence it always starts with a capital letter and finishes with
a full stop.
Year Two Rhyming Activity
In today’s activity you will show your knowledge of rhyming words.
Rhyming words are two or more words that have the same or similar ending sound. Some
examples of rhyming words are: goat, boat, moat, float, coat…. If they sound the same or
similar, they rhyme.
Remember you are asked to write three rhyming words and many words that rhyme with
bat.
Tip: To help you think of rhyming words, read the words out loud to someone so that you
can hear and think about other words that rhyme. Sometimes you can simply change the
first letter to make a new rhyming word eg. dog, fog.
