you so that you can listen to the story together. If you don’t, look for a soft toy that you can
cuddle next to and enjoy the story together. Ask your family member to go to the following website on their mobile phone so you can
both listen to “The Very Itchy bear” by Nick Bland. The safe link is: https://safeshare.tv/x/ss5e994868bde81

PDH – Acting Safely.
In this lesson we are learning to identify rules that aim to keep us safe and explain why they
are important.
Think about some of the rules you have at home. List 3 rules that your family has at home
that aim to keep you safe.
Next, think about some rules we have at Harcourt that aim to keep you safe and list 3
Harcourt rules in your book.
Why do you think the world has rules?
What would happen if we had no rules in the world?
Write your answers to all of these questions in your homework book.
Optional: Draw a picture of the world with NO rules. What might you see happening around
you?
Thank you for thinking about the different ways we stay safe at home and at school.

Patterns and Algebra
We have been learning about increasing and decreasing number patterns.
Increasing number patterns skip count forwards and decreasing number patterns skip count
backwards.
For example, 50, 53, 56, 59 is an increasing number pattern and we are counting forwards by
3s.
49, 47, 45, 43 is a decreasing number pattern and we are counting backwards by 2s.
Year 1 and Year 2 Activity
We have been learning how to continue a number pattern. For this activity you are going to
practise creating your own number patterns.
Your task is to:
Harcourt Public School 4 Stage 1 Offline Learning Activities
1. Create 4 increasing number patterns and 4 decreasing number patterns. You can
have up to 10 numbers in a pattern (e.g. 35, 37, 39, 41, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53)
2. Under each pattern write a sentence explaining if it is an increasing or decreasing
number pattern and how much it is counting forwards or backwards by. You can
challenge yourself by creating number patterns that are three digits or higher. You can
also skip count by bigger numbers e.g. Start at 135 and skip count by 200s! Try to
make each number pattern skip counting by a different number each time.
You can use a number chart to help you skip count. This is included in the appendix.

Your Learning Activity
In this lesson your learning goal is to create motion using different materials.
To be successful in this lesson you will be able to:
• Find different ways to create motion (make an object move).
• Improve ideas by making changes to your design.
Toy car experiment:
Use a toy car or any other small objects with wheels. Find different ways to make it move
without using your hands. Observe (look) and record (write down) the different ways you
created motion.
Suggested Materials – toy car, balloon, string, masking tape, small bits of cardboard,
straws, magnets (if available).
Share your ideas with a family member.
Talk about the different ways you created motion without touching the toy car?
What forces did you use to create motion for the car?

Area- In this lesson we are learning to compare and order the area by informal units. To be successful you will be able to:
- Use informal units to measure. - Compare the area of the smallest and largest shape.
We have been looking at the topic area in maths and how to measure objects using informal units. Informal units do not have numbers on them to measure an object, they are the same size as each other. Last week, we used square bears to measure area – we used squares because they do not leave gaps when you place them together and their sides are even (giving more accurate measurements).
Activity: Year 1 & 2
Harcourt Public School 9 Stage 1 Offline Learning Activities
Today your activity is to print out the Measuring the Area of a Robot with Informal Units worksheet. The first thing you will need to do is colour in the robot. You will need to use different colours to colour the different parts of the robot. For example, you might use the colour
red for the arms, blue for the legs, green for the body and orange for the neck and head.
Next, you will need to answer the questions below. You will carefully count the number of squares that cover each part of the robot and give your answer on the blank space.
Year 2 – you will do the same activity but you will also need to find the area of the space outside the robot by counting all of the squares.

Geography - Australia’s Landscapes and Environments (Rivers)
Your goal is to learn what a river is and locate 2 rivers in New South Wales.
You will be successful when you can:
Explain what a river is.
Label 2 rivers in New South Wales

definition of a river is: A river is a flowing, moving stream of water.
2. Label the 2 rivers in New South Wales (Darling River, Murray River) on the blank
map of Australia.
3. Colour the lines blue that show the 2 rivers on the New South Wales map. See the
map with the rivers in New South Wales.

Spelling Test – Ask an adult to test you on your spelling words. Write the spelling words into your homework book. Draw an emoji to show how you went.
Reading for enjoyment. Your goal today is to find a quiet spot at home to read a new book from the Premiers

the story together. Ask your family member to go to the following website on their mobile phone so you can
both listen to “The little red bear” by Penny Matthews.

Writing – Grammar and Vocabulary learning Year One – Complete the worksheet to add “ed’ or “ing’ to the words listed. Remember these rules when adding “ing”: Rule 1: For words that end in a silent (not pronounced) -e, drop the -e and add -ing.
Example: smile → smiling
Rule 2: For one-syllable words that end in consonant-vowel-consonant (except x and w), double the last letter and add -ing.
Examples: sit → sitting run → running
Rule 3: For most other words (including words that end in -y), add -ing with no changes.
Examples: rain → raining send → sending
Rules when adding “ed” to the words listed: Rule 1: add "-ed" to a verb to change it to the past tense. For example, "talk + ed = talked". Rule 2: when the verb ends in "e", add only "d." For example, "arrive + d = arrived". Rule 3: when a one-syllable verb ends in vowel + consonant, double the consonant. For example, "stop + p + ed = stopped". Year Two – Complete the worksheet to think of synonyms to words. Remember, synonyms are a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word or phrase in the same language, for example shut is a synonym of close.
Recess Break
Wash your hands and then give high fives to every person in your family.
Now wash your hands again before you eat your recess.
