Wow, time is flying! Already, we are one month into the new year. It won’t be long before we have to start thinking

about getting the Christmas decorations out again. Years ago, when I was younger, older people would tell me that

time started passing by much more quickly as you get older. I pretty much pooh poohed that idea at the time, but

now I am a firm believer in that fact! Many times during the course of a week, I will glance at the clock, see that it

is 4 o’clock in the afternoon, and wonder where the day went. Looking back over my life, I think the days when time

moved the slowest was when I was waiting to be old enough to get my driver’s license! I think all you car people

can understand where I’m coming from on that subject.

We’ve certainly had a wimpy winter so far, and from what the weather experts are saying, this could be the norm

from now on. Some of us like it, some of us don’t. Global warming scares me. I don’t want it to get so warm to the

point you are constantly miserable with the heat, much like July. Oh, well, not much we can do about it, I guess.

We have abused this planet much too long to change things now. Time to put on my optimist cap and on to happier

things.

Fast forward a few days, and the wimpy winter has been put on hold for awhile. With our recent little snow falls, it

even looks like winter! This is a chance to perfectly segue into talking about Ron (Richfield) Anderson and his

clothes drives that seem to have turned into a continuous event. Ron reported at our last meeting that there is a

need for warm clothes, gloves, sleeping bags, etc. for the needy & homeless. If you should have any of these

items taking up space in your closet or storage space, please call Ron. I’m sure that he will make some kind of

arrangement to get them to the folks who can use them. As a matter of fact, I have some winter clothes in our

closet that could be donated to the cause, and not be missed one bit. Ron’s number is: 612-869-5768.

By the time this issue comes out, the MSRA awards banquet will be over, and the results of the voting for the two

“Car of the Year” awards will have been revealed. Two Southern Cruzer members, Ken Ingram & Jerry Forness,

had their cars up for voting, and we wished them well! Meanwhile, stay warm, and get out to enjoy the snow if you

can. Won’t be long before it’s cruising time again! See you out there somewhere. DB

the November 2018 meeting as printed in the Cruz News. The motion passed.

one bill for $30.00 to cover the cost of the special MVC award. Jack Keenan made a motion to pay the bill, se-

conded by Fran Stade, and the motion passed. $340.00 in membership money from December and January was

turned over to the treasury.

you letters were received from all three charities , and were on display for the attending members.

New Business: Jack Keenan reported that he sent out nine hard copies of the last Cruz News in both November

& December. Jerry Forness explained an offer from “Smoke Signals” for the club being a signature car club at

voted not to be part of this. Ron (Richfield) Anderson wanted to thank the members who volunteered to wrap

Christmas gifts at the Aliveness Project in December. There is still a need for warm clothing for the needy, and

Ron is always collecting. Call him if you have any donations. Ron also announced that he has two tours planned

for this season. One is a car cruise to Okoboji, Iowa, August 8 - 11. This cruise would be about 440 miles, with a

stop at Britt, Iowa, for Hobo Days. Ron has a block of 20 rooms reserved. The other tour would be by Heartland

Tours motor coach and going to two car museums in Illinois. The dates for this would be May 7 - 9. Any members

interested in these events should contact Ron @ 612-869-5768, or for the bus trip call Mike @ 507- 424 -2700,

651-777-7170, or e-mail at: [email protected] for more details.

TSS Business: A discussion was held on holding the 2019 Summer Spectacular at the Dakota County Fair-

grounds. By a show of hands, it was indicated that the membership wants the event to proceed. Jerry Forness

reported that Apple Valley Ford is back as a $5,000.00 sponsor for 2019. Jerry also reported that the business

expo is signed up for another year, and all the required forms for the Fairgrounds and Castle Rock Township

have been sent out.

MSRA: Terry Stade welcomed back Ken Ingram who was in attendance. Terry reported that the MSRA Awards &

Worker Banquet will be Saturday, January 26, 5 p.m., at the Treasure Island Casino.

motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ken Fortman; seconded by Chell Craigie; and the motion carried.

SOUTHERN CRUZER LADIES NIGHT OUT

On Tuesday, January 22, seven ladies affiliated

with the Southern Cruzers met at the Chart House

in Lakeville for another evening of dining and con-

versation. I’m sure it is a much better place after

they hashed out many problems that are plaguing

the world today! The ladies invite all who are in-

terested to join them next month, February 26, 5

p.m., at the Roasted Pear in Burnsville.

GARAGE SCENE

RON (EAGAN) ANDERSON’S SHOP

Recently, after finishing Saturday breakfast, Ron Anderson invited us over to his shop to see the progress on the

‘52 Chevy he is building for his bride, Laurie. A lot has been done on the car with a lot more to go. After inspecting

this project, I can tell Ron is not the type of person who spends his evenings in front of the TV watching “Dancing

with the Stars.” Once this baby is finished, it will make a good partner for Ron’s yellow El Camino at car events in

the area. Check out that 468 big block, and the frenched headlights. Also, the “Andy’s Hot Rod Garage” sign

which doubles as a hanger for grill tools was made by club member, Matt Weierke! Photos by the editor

CHELL CRAIGIE’S ‘55 CHEVY GETS A LITTLE TWEAKING

A few years ago, I helped Chell, with a problem of a rich

running Edelbrock carburetor, by leaning out the jets &

metering rods. I had done the same adjustment on Lil

Darlin’ and gained about 3 miles per gallon. It seemed

that this change didn’t help very much with the fuel

economy on Chell’s car, and it appeared to be running

too lean. In the final cruising days before it was time to

put our rides to bed, we pulled the ‘55 into my shop and

put it back to the factory settings on the carb. Chell

thought it was running pretty well after several test miles.

We’ll know for sure when springtime comes, and Chell

has a chance to put a lot more miles on it. I think this

proves that if you make a change on one car, you can’t

always expect the same results with another car.
