CONCORD SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Happy Successful Children Learning and Growing in Harmony with their World Kia ora Families Mufti Day – We are having another Mufti Day TOMORROW Friday 1 st July to raise money for Guide Dogs. My sister Megan Turnbull will visit the school with her guide dog Oban to talk to the children about being blind and how her dog helps her. Gold coin donation please. For more information on Guide Dogs, or to take part in their Bikkie Day fundraiser on Monday, go to www.blindfoundation.org.nz Open Afternoon Our end of term assembly takes place at 2.00pm next Thursday the 7 th July. We will be giving out the Mark Reid Super Citizenship award and the Principal’s Virtues award. After the assembly we would like to hold a shared afternoon tea on the deck and it would be appreciated if your child could bring a plate of food to share. Interviews – Interviews continue this afternoon. Thanks to all the parents and students who came to the interviews this week. A reminder to those that couldn’t make it please arrange another time with their classroom teacher. Absences – We have noticed recently there has been a high number of unjustified absences. If your child is off school you must have a valid reason for this and you need to contact the office using the one of the absence numbers on this page by 9.00am. Regular absences means your child misses out on vital learning and this over time will make them fall behind. Having regular days off school for no valid reason sets up bad habits for the future. Gratitude Letters – As part of Room 5’s writing programme we have been writing gratitude letters to thank people who help us in our everyday lives. It gives the children time to reflect and be thankful for things that often go unnoticed. The children are very proud of their letters and these will be given or sent out over the next week when they are finished. I was surprised this week by a fantastic letter written by Kelsey. Thanks Kelsey. KVC Visit – Today all Year 5&6 students are visiting KVC for their Open Afternoon. They will be involved in different activities, including cooking and hard materials. Boxes – We would still appreciate any boxes you may have for the children to use for construction eg cereal, toothpaste etc Netball – This week Concord Blue (Yr 1/2) played Wakari Pink and the ‘Player of the Day’ was Ameliya. DNFF Yellow (Yr 3/4) played the Carisbrook Stars and the ‘Player of the Day’ was Haylee B. The Concord Flyers had a great game, winning 4-2 against Wakari Red, and the ‘Player of the Day’ was Skyla-Jade. Golf Lesson – We finally had some good weather on Tuesday to enable our group of senior students to have their golf lesson with Melanie Harper at the Belleknowes Golf Club. Disco – A great night was had by all last Friday night. Many thanks to the Parents’ Group for organising this. A silver bracelet was found after the disco – please see Linda at the office if it is yours. Honey – Congratulations to Dylan McKenzie on winning the ‘Design a Label’ competition. We now have approximately 40 small jars of our honey for sale at $3.00 each – limit of one per family at this stage (There wont be enough for every familym so first in, first serve).
