Happy Retirement
Mike, For your many years of dedication and hard work with Duplin County, you deserve the best retirement ever.
Enjoy this new journey of your life, cherish every moment and have TONS of fun! You will truly be
missed.
Thank You to Everyone,
Words cannot express the overwhelming
emotions that I have experienced
numerous times since the announcement of
my retirement. These emotions were
stirred because of the Wonderful employees
of Duplin County reaching out to me via
cards, gifts, plaques, calling, dropping by
my office, or participating in an amazing
retirement reception on November 9th. I
have been blessed to be a part of such an
amazing group of individuals for the past
thirty-three years. Thank you for the
grand show you put on at the retirement
reception, the gifts, the cards, etc. And
Thank you even more for allowing me to
be part of your work family. You have
enriched my life more than you will even
know.
- Teresa Lanier -
We would like to say “THANK YOU FROM
THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS” to each
and every employee who contributed
with food, funds, talent, and assistance.
Your generous contributions and efforts
made their send off a GREAT success. On
top of the retirement reception we were
able to get each one of them a $135 Visa
Gift Card from the Employees of Duplin
County.
We appreciate everyone that took the
time out of their busy day to come and
wish them well in their future
endeavors,
Words cannot express the appreciation
we feel!!
Most Sincerely,
Christina Polingo & Michell Rowlands

Recipe of the month Quinoa Black Bean Burger
Ingredients
1 (15 oz) can low sodium black beans, rinsed
and drained.
1/4 cup quinoa
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup minced yellow bell pepper
2 tablespoons minced onion
1 large clove garlic, minced
1.5 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (Texas pete,
Frank’s RedHot)
1 egg
3 tablespoons olive oil
Directions
Bring the quinoa and water to a boil in a
saucepan. Reduce heat to medium-low, cov-
er, and simmer until the quinoa is tender and
the water has been absorbed, about 15 to 20
minutes.
Roughly mash the black beans with a fork
leaving some whole black beans in a paste-
like mixture.
Mix the quinoa, bread crumbs, bell pepper,
onion, garlic, cumin, salt, hot pepper sauce,
and egg into the black beans using your
hands.
Form the black bean mixture into 5 patties.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet.
Cook the patties in the hot oil until heated
through, 2 to 3 minutes per side.
‘Tis the Season to be Healthy … fa la la…
Although the holidays are a time to celebrate, they can also equate
to a stressful year, so be sure to schedule time in your day for
mental and physical health boosters.
Take a moment to breathe:
Organize your to do list.
Go outside take in the beauty and sounds of nature.
Light a candle and take in the magic of the season.
Eat well: Include foods with essential nutrients such as low-fat or
fat-free dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains
and lean protein. Remember to stay hydrated with water.
Exercise: Averaging 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days a
week will lower your risk of serious illness and improve your
mood!
Get enough sleep:
Go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.
Avoid working and watching TV in bed.
Avoid tobacco; limit caffeine and alcohol.
Ideally, exercise at least four hours prior to bedtime.
Standing Squat:
While standing, place a stability ball between a wall and your back.
Extend your feet in front of you, hip-distance apart, and press your
back against the ball. There should be a 45-degree angle between
your legs and the wall. Slowly bend your knees, lowering your body
to a squat position. Hold for two seconds and then return to start
position. Repeat for two sets of eight to 12 repetitions.
