Happy New Year! The arrival of 2020 brings
many new challenges and opportunities. Many people
consider the change of dates to be an opportunity to
change their lives for the better. For this reason, many
will start off 2020 with a New Year’s resolution or two.
The thought of seizing this as an opportunity for change
is actually very sound. Many Americans will make a
commitment to lose weight. In fact, most of us have at
one time or another experienced the dieting routine. It is
estimated that more than one-third of the nation's popu-
lation is interested in losing weight at any given time.
The other top resolutions after losing weight are to be
happier, to save money, to fall in love, to get a job or a
better job, to read more, to try or learn something new,
to quit smoking, to run a marathon and of course to be
present for all of Bro. Jerry’s sermons. Ok, maybe I
made up that last one. In truth, we all need to determine
to live closer to Jesus than ever before. This will involve
more prayer, more Bible reading and yes, faithful wor-
ship and Sunday School attendance. If you are not pres-
ently attending Sunday School, make that your commit-
ment for the New Year. If you are hit and miss on Sun-
days, start being faithful in your attendance. If you are a
Sunday morning only person, add Sunday nights. If you
only come on Sundays, try Wednesday nights. The whole
idea is to do more for the Lord than you have been do-
ing. As the song says, “just a closer walk with Thee.”
Such spiritual growth is possible! All it takes is for you to
be faithful today and everyday there after. Now if you
should mess up or miss a service, don’t give up. Get back
to a walk of faithfulness on your very next opportunity.
The result will be a more happy and holy you.
Happy New Year!

Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all
wisdom teaching and admonishing one another
through psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, singing
to God with gratitude in your hearts.
Colossians 3:16
As we begin this new year, let’s use more of our time on
worship for God. Just as the last few words of the verse
tell us, we should have gratitude in our hearts for God.
In order to have the gratitude for God, we need to expe-
rience gratitude from God. Two examples are being
able to live into the new year and knowing Christ died
on the cross and rose again for our sins. There are many
other reasons we can think of and each one will give us
more joy in worship to our God. When we gather for
church, remember these reasons and give thanks back to
God for all He continues to do.
