Golf Shop (Open Wednesday through Saturday 9:00am - 4:00pm)Happy New Year!! We hope everyone had a safe and fun New Year. It is hard to believe that 2015 is upon us. Even though the holiday buzz has ended and the snow and temperatures continue to fall, please remember that the Golf Shop remains open all winter long. Golf Shop hours of operation are Wednesday through Saturday, 9:00am – 4:00pm. We are staying busy, gearing up for the 2015 season with tournament and lesson programming in addition to finding the latest and greatest in merchandise and equipment.

LessonsThe nets are up by now and once again we hung them in the golf shop. The golf shop provides a much brighter and warmer environment to take a lesson. It’s also a good time to start those season long lesson packages. Why winter lessons?? The sometimes hard to break bad habits have the best chance to evolve into good habits because there is no impending tournament or focus on ball flight. Flexibility is also a major factor in proper swing technique. Keeping the muscles loose or increasing the range of motion will enable a faster start to the season. Lastly, it’s a proven fact that many lessons lead to improvement and the season long lesson package is a cost effective way to accomplish your goals. Ask around….

Turf News On The Course with Scott Hillyard

January is here and the course is sleeping, sort of. Our frozen November has turned into a mini-thaw here in December. This has allowed us time to finish up approach topdressing that the early cold and snow halted. At some point in time we will have some snow on the ground again, and I know some of you enjoy utilizing the golf course for cross country skiing. With the potential for damage, I ask that you please keep your trails away from all greens and tees.

The break in maintenance gives our department an opportunity to set the stage for the upcoming season. In the shop we are busy with equipment rebuild. This involves cleaning and servicing all equipment, grinding reels, and replacing bearings and seals, among many other equipment related tasks. Additionally we are in process of refurbishing all golf course equipment such as ball washers and tee

markers. We will spend time cleaning and organizing the equipment storage areas as well as making minor repairs and upgrades to the staff lounge, bathrooms, offices, and shop work area.

Beyond that, this is the time to set the plan for the season ahead. By the end of winter, we will have a schedule of all fertilizer and chemical applications, topdressing applications, cultural practices such as verticutting, and when aerification will occur and the process and materials needed, as well as a list of possible projects to undertake as well as timing. While this schedule is flexible, it provides us a guide to make sure we are continuously moving forward.

While we are in the midst of winter, I suspect we are less than 90 days from cleaning up and getting the season underway. Sunny, warm days are not far away.

Classes Start Monday February 23rd

Ballet Basics /Tumbling & Tap Saturdays 10:15am – 11:00 am (Ages 3-5)This class is a great introduction to develop child musicality and rhythm in a fun and creative environment. Little dancers are welcomed to a creative yet disciplined classroom structure that challenges their curious minds while introducing age-appropriate dance material. Exercises are intended to increase their coordination, strength, flexibility and their awareness of space while beginning their understanding of classical ballet and modern dance.

Ballet Jazz I - Mondays 5pm – 6 pm (Ages 5 – 7)Class curriculum is based on ballet techniques combined with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm up, stretches, isolations, jumps, leaps, turns, and across-the-floor progressions and routines. Students will develop coordination of their arms and heads with a concentration on smooth transitions throughout the exercises. Ballet terminology is also further developed.

Ballet Jazz II & Lyrical – Thursdays 5pm – 6pm (Boys & Girls Ages 8 and Up)Advanced ballet choreographies and feet/arm positions are a key component of this class. Coordination, grace, flexibility and posture are further developed. Lyrical elements are also introduced allowing dancers to set their emotions free and dance with their heart as well as technique. The musical focus results in movement that has a smooth, flowing quality used to tell a story.
