January 2017
Happy New Year!
My favorite part of the creative process is the planning and dreaming stage, and no time of year is better for this than Janu-ary. The mad rush of finishing holiday gifts is over, the sewing room is actually clean and organized, and there is time to leisure-ly peruse those gifts of new quilting and knitting books. January also brings the big Road to California show, a source of all kinds of ideas from the displays to the vendors to the classes.
I find inspiration from the regular features of our meetings. Block of the month introduces me to designs I might never try on my own, the library displays different books each month, and of course the store and fabric exchange provide new and unusu-al colors and patterns for my fabric stash. Best of all is show and tell. The variety of beautiful projects you all bring each month does more than inspire me, it motivates me to get those ideas out of my head and into a tangible, physical project!
I’m especially looking forward to the guests and workshops we have lined up this spring starting with Patty Knoechel who will be presenting her talk “Creating with Color”. Look for more in-formation about her and upcoming speakers in the Programs section of the newsletter.

ProgramsProgramsPrograms First we want to thank Jennifer Williams and Carol Tolbert for playing such
beautiful Christmas music before and during our potluck last month. The
music was lovely and added much to the holiday atmosphere.
As you all know, Patricia Knoechel (pronounced Neigh-gull) will be our speak-
er this month. She is a former art teacher and brings her artistic vision and tal-
ent for color combining to the craft of quilting. She is the author of several
quilt books and patterns, including “Creating with Color”, “Snowball Simpli-
fied”, “Country Cottages”, “Fans and Flutterbys”, “Sew Radiant”, and “Color
Wheel Quilts”. Since 1985, Pat has traveled widely, giving demonstrations
from Quilt in a Day publications. Her many coast tours have brought her in
contact with over 300 quilt shops and guilds nationwide.
She has appeared on the Quilt in a Day TV show in a series featuring the
“Grandmother’s Garden Quilt” book which she co-authored. Pat will have this
book along with Elenors Burns’ newest book “Quilts from Elenors’ Attic” and
other patterns for sale at a discount. She only takes cash and checks – sorry no
credit cards.
The “Flower Power Hexie Table Runner” workshop on Sunday is full. For
those of you taking the class, remember it will be at Paradise Sewing from
10am to 4pm.
Paradise Sewing is located in Poway
12633 Poway Road
858-679-9808
From Hwy 15 take the Poway Road exit East

Thank you to Paradise Sewing for letting us host our workshop.
Patty is sure to inspire all of us with her beautiful quilts. Hope to see everyone
at the January guild meeting.

Happy Happy New Year to all you lovely quilters! The year is winding down and we have a
new year ahead of us- with lots of hope and promise for another successful year for
the guild.
Our boutique products brought in a good sum of money this year. As reported from Betsy
our treasurer, we sold $65.00 in Sept, $15.00 in Oct, Nov $116.00 plus we netted $2244.60
(gross sales of $2494.00 minus Andrea's 10% of $249.40 at the boutique) plus sales at our
December pot luck of $538.00 for an annual total of $2978.60. It was a successful year
thanks to all the support, talent and donations from all the members in the guild. Wow, what
a great group!!
As we get into the new year we need to think about the 2017 boutique, making more kits,
making table runners, pot holders (as we almost sold out), mug rugs, children's quilts and
Christmas quilts, dog scarves, place mats, stockings and panels. We hope many of you will
continue to be supportive, as this is our biggest fund raiser of the year. Thanks again to all.

Village Quilters is an organization of people who like and
appreciate quilting. Our membership is made up of new quilters, old quilters and people who just appreciate the fabric arts. If you are new to quilting and thought quilt guilds were only for experi-
enced quilters, please think again.
Our meetings offer an opportunity to learn from each other and to be challenged to try new things. Each meeting provides opportuni-ties to hear from talented guests in the quilting industry and identi-fies ways you can support your community through the making and
giving of quilts to the needy.
Meetings are usually held on the second Saturday, September through June. Join the guild for $35, renew your membership for $30 or come as a guest for $5. Golden Girl Quilters (70 and over)
pay $25 as new, $20 on renewal. We look forward to seeing you.
