The funding helps rural transit agencies replace 271 buses. Two transportation providers that operate in TxDOT’s 10-county Corpus Christi District received a total of almost $1.4 million. The funds were awarded to 35 public transportation providers in rural areas across the state. Funding includes $7 million in grant funding from the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program awarded to TxDOT in September. Coastal Bend agencies awarded grants are: Rural Economic Assistance League, $1,274,500. It operates in Aransas, Bee, Jim Wells, Live Oak, Refugio, San Patricio, Brooks, Duval and Jim Hogg counties; and Kleberg County Human Services, $105,500. It serves Kenedy and Kleberg counties. The public transportation funds administered by TxDOT support transit programs serving 41 percent of the state’s population and covering more than 96 percent of the state’s land area. Residents of these areas use these transit services to get to work, school, shopping and medical appointments. Don’t drink to the extent that problems will arise,” said Brooks County Sheriff Benny Martínez. He stressed that if you are going to drink, to have a designated driver that is not drinking or ask for a ride home from someone sober. Holidays are meant to be celebrated safely with family, friends, and our children. Always remember the children. He also warns of drugs which are infiltrating into Brooks County. The most potent and most addictive is methamphetamine, also known as meth or crystal meth because it looks like broken or crushed glass. Synthetic marijuana and cocaine can also impair a person’s driving. Deputies will be out patrolling. Anyone stopped and charged with driving while intoxicated or driving under the influence will be taken to jail. Sheriff Martínez warns of holiday dangers In the course of investigating the influx of methamphetamine into the Brooks County community, it was determined that Ricardo Lamar Arrellano was in possession of crystal meth, a very addictive drug that looks like broken glass. At about 7:30 p.m. on Mon., December 17, deputies executed a narcotics search warrant on the occupants of one of the apartments at the MacPeña Apartments. Arrellano was one of the occupants.
