Power starved industries in the State can expect somerelief next month as the AP Electricity Regulatory

Commission (APERC) has given its approval todistribution companies for supply of expensive power toindustries willing to avail it.

The Commission, in a notification issued a few daysago, said a draft expensive power supply scheme (EPSS)was prepared in view of the acute power shortage forconsumers willing to buy power, which is expected to bearound Rs. 9 a unit.

Discoms had been asked to procure power generatedusing the Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) fromfour gas-based power projects – GVK Extension 220MW), Gautami (464 MW), Vemagiri (370 MW) andKonaseema (444 MW).

The selection of the power plants had been made onthe basis of the lower station heat rate, compared to otherplants, and they could generate power using RLNG withreduced variable cost. Interested consumers shouldsubmit applications to the respective Discoms indicatingthe quantum of demand and the load factor for drawingenergy.

Discoms, the commission said in the EPSS, shouldsupply power to consumers on “no profit no loss” basis, and in case the procurement was less than therequirement, available power would be distributedproportionately among consumers on pro-rata basis.

The AP Electricity Regulatory Commission said acoordination committee would be constituted under thechairmanship of the AP Transco Chairman and ManagingDirector, with representatives from Discoms, PowerCoordination Committee of Transco, FAPCCI, FAPSIAand AP Spinning Mills association to oversee theimplementation of the scheme.
