The Atlantic Coast hurricane season is from June 1 to November 30, however, we are most vulnerable from Mid-August to early November. Here are some steps you should take, even before a hurricane watch or warning is announced:
•Create an Emergency Kit (Go Bag)•Plan your evacuation route (see Evacuation Routes).•Learn location of official Red Cross Shelter (NCC).•Purchase or maintain emergency equipment, such as flashlights, generators, radios, and cell phones.•Keep trees and shrubbery well-trimmed.•Plan an alternative location for your boat.•Buy plywood or other material to protect your home.•Make a Hurricane Emergency Kit.•Review your insurance policy.•Find pet-friendly locations along the evacuation route.

Hazardous HousEHold WastE Hazardous Waste Program (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) takes place April 19th behind City Hall. Materials include aerosol cans, antifreeze, bug killer, car batteries, de-greasers, disinfectants, drain cleaners, fertilizer, flammable liquid, kerosene, paint stripper, solvents & waste oil. This means all of your recyclables will be collected together in one can or bag, and therefore, do not have to be separated. New recycling bins can be picked up at City Hall during regular business hours. Old bins or clear, see-through plastic bags may also be used.
