Things to do at home
Daily exercise is vital for everyone’s general health and well-being. Along with the physical benefits,
it also promotes confidence and sound mental health. It is always advisable to check with your
health professional before beginning any exercise routine.
Here are 7 exercises that will help you maintain your strength and energy.
Walking: Start with walking in place for 2 minutes and progress to 5 minutes. Walk briskly
around the house for 5 minutes. Increase the walking weekly.
Wall Push-ups: Place hands on the wall at shoulder height. Feet flat on the floor about 2 feet away.
Keep legs straight. Do not bend at the hips. Bend arms to move hips forward. Start with 5 repeti-
tions and progress to 15.
Chair Stand: Chair stands require a sturdy chair that is easy to maneuver out of. Begin in sitting po-
sition then gradually stand up and sit back down onto the chair. Both hands can be used for added
support. This movement helps legs stay toned and improves agility. Long term, it is one of the
more effective exercises for exercising at home.
Toe Rises: With your hands lightly resting on a firm surface and using alternate feet, raise your toes
towards your shin and lower – start for 2 minutes and progress to 5. Do the same exercise without
holding onto a firm surface.
Leg Lifts: Holding lightly to a firm surface with one hand, raise the leg on the free side (with straight
knee) to the front and down again for 5 repetitions. Lift the leg to the side and
down again for 5 repetitions. Be sure to do the same on both sides and progress to fifteen rep-
etitions with each leg.
Arm Curls: Arm curls can be performed sitting or standing. Use a very light weight while doing arm
curls. If no weights are available, use a can of soup or bottle of water. Arm curls greatly improve
strength within the biceps.
Dance: Dancing is fun and beneficial. It does not have to be strenuous and can include the sim-
ple act of taking small steps to a favorite song. Salsa is a growing dance trend even for those of lim-
ited mobility, as it only requires a few steps forward and backward. Any type of dance can be
performed sitting down or with the support of the back of a chair, making it a fantastic exercise for
exercising at home.

WASHINGTON — Two veterans in Congress introduced legislation Monday that
would force the Department of Veterans Affairs to respond to a backlog of re-quests made through the Freedom of Information Act, many from veterans
themselves and advocacy groups.
Reps. Gil Cisneros, D-Calif., and Max Rose, D-N.Y., accused the department of
lacking transparency. They said technology issues at the VA have prevented the agency from responding to hundreds of FOIA requests for information. The bill would require the VA to fix the IT issues and reduce its backlog of FOIA
requests by 75% within three years.

Dear Senior Center Members,
I wanted to take this opportunity to touch base and let you know
how the center will be functioning currently and how we are partici-
pating in the Delaware’s response to COVID-19. This is a rapidly
evolving public health event so it is very possible that by the time you
see this, things will have been changed so keep that in mind.
We must follow all guidelines set forth by our Governor, These
guidelines include, social distancing, wearing a mask, handwashing,
temperature checks, and any other rules they set.
We continue to provide meals as to go curbside pickup. To order a
meal you must call 302-335-4555 the day before, we are asking for
$5.00 donation for such meals, Meals are being offered on Monday
Wednesday and Fridays, these are not our normal meals, and they are
being prepared by Volunteers. The menus will be posted on our face-
book page Frederica Senior Cen.
Transportation to medical appointments is still provided by the cen-
ter, we must have two weeks notice of need, transporting to medical
appointments, pharmacies and grocery stores.
Activities are being provided ,
I am so proud of our team at the center for our response to date
on this pandemic. If you have questions or concerns, the follow-
ing are some important numbers to use and share with anyone you
may know who has a need. Please stay well, stay in touch with your

Frederica Senior Center
Senior centers should post COVID-19 safety reminders throughout the center.
Senior centers should continue to follow CDC and DPH guidance on COVID-19.
Handwashing and face covering policies should be adhered to at all time.
Participants and staff should be encouraged to wash hands for 20 seconds with soap and
water throughout the day.
Hand sanitizer must be available throughout the facility in addition to, but not in place of,
handwashing.
When cleaning the senior center:
Use an EPA List 6 approved disinfectant for frequently touched surfaces.
Facility must be cleaned at least once per day.
High contact surfaces, including but not limited to doorknobs, light switches, and railings,
should be cleaned a minimum of twice throughout the day.
If a senior center participant exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 or is diagnosed with the virus by a
positive test result or by a health care practitioner after having attended the senior center, the senior
center is to report this information to DPH on the same day that the senior center receives the in-
formation.
The information to be reported includes:
The number of participants showing symptoms of COVID-19, and the number of participants diag-
nosed with the virus by either a positive test result or a health care practitioner.
The number of participants, staff and volunteers in attendance who may have been exposed
Recommendations To Prevent Outbreaks After Reopening
If a staff person or participant tests positive, contact the Division of Public Health immediately and
follow the guidance provided by epidemiology which could be temporary closure of the center
for up to 14 days.
Where can I find more information about COVID-19?
The Delaware Division of Public Health has a dedicated page for COVID-19 that provides regular up-
dates. Click here for the most up to date information regarding COVID-19. Additional information is
