Happy Father’s Day! Due to the many activities and lack of parking spaces the first week of June, we will NOT be having our Senior Adult Luncheon. See you all in July! A father is neither an anchor to hold us back nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love shows us the way. New Life Day New Life day was on May 2nd, and it began with Mass at 10am. Everyone got a corsage or boutonniere, and Parish Stars were able to sit with the students with whom they have been exchanging cards all year. Hugh and Cindy Rice, along with their Parish Star students, crowned Mary for us just be- fore Mass. After Mass, the eighth grade students joined our senior adults for a delicious brunch. Our amazing entertain- ment at the brunch was a very talented man by the name of Peter Markes, who played the guitar and fiddle for us. The kids and adults really enjoyed his music, and a fun time was had by all! June 2019

Happy Father’s Day!

Due to the many activities and lack of

parking spaces the first week of June,

we will NOT be having our Senior Adult

Luncheon. See you all in July!

A father is neither an anchor to hold us back nor a

sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love

shows us the way.

New Life Day New Life day was on May 2nd, and it began with Mass at 10am. Everyone got a corsage or boutonniere, and Parish Stars were able to sit with the students with whom they have been exchanging cards all year. Hugh and Cindy Rice, along with their Parish Star students, crowned Mary for us just be-fore Mass. After Mass, the eighth grade students joined our senior adults for a delicious brunch. Our amazing entertain-ment at the brunch was a very talented man by the name of Peter Markes, who played the guitar and fiddle for us. The kids and adults really enjoyed his music, and a fun time was had by all!

Lunch & a Movie Tuesday, June 18th at 11:30am The late Pope John Paul II was one of the world's greatest pro-ponents of religious freedom and human rights. Based on George Weigel's book of the same name, this film gives viewers an intimate portrait of the extraordinary leader. Born Karol Wojtyla, known as Lolek by his mother, the future pope faced personal tragedies throughout his youth. He held tight to his convictions through the ter-rifying years of WWII, joined the Polish resistance, attended an un-derground seminary, became the youngest bishop in Poland, and fought against communism under the Stalin regime. See how per-

sonal experiences and his years teaching philosophy at Catholic University in Lu-bin set the foundation for Wojtyla's papacy, and how Pope John Paul II connected with people of all faiths while in office.

If you would like to join us, please call Kathy at 842-1483 to let her know, so we’ll know how much food to prepare. Cost is $7.

Food Bank Closed If you volunteer with us for the food bank on the LAST Tuesday of the month, please note that it is closed on our regular day in June, so we’ll skip it this month. If you don’t volunteer, you should, because you’re missing a wonderful opportunity to spend an afternoon with some awesome CTK parishioners giving back to our community! For more information, please call Pam at 842-1483.

Adult Wine, Snack and Cash Prize Bingo! t’s time again for our Adult Bingo, Wine and Snack

Night! It’s going to be on Sunday, June 9th, 7pm – 8:30pm. Cost is $10 for two cards. If you bring some kind of hors d’oeuvre or sweet snack to share, you’ll get your two cards for $5. Please put it on your calendar now, you won’t want to miss it! Questions? E-mail me at [email protected] or call the Parish Life office at 842-1483.

Another Service Opportunity After going to the Regional Food Bank for our Lenten Service project, many people have mentioned that they would like to do that as a parish several times a year, and we thought that was a great idea! As most of you know, I take a group once a month during the day, but we’re also going to be going four times a year in the evenings so more people can participate. The next time will be on Wednesday, July 17th from 6:30pm—8:30pm. If you would like to join us on July 17th, just go to Ckokc.org/service-rfb. We will need about 80 participants for that shift.

Summer Bible Studies WISDOM, God’s Vision for Life Scripture and the tradition of the Catholic Church provide an abundance of wisdom, thought it can often be challenging to apply it to our lives. In this study, Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith examine biblical wisdom as it relates to daily life. Drawing on the wisdom literature of the Bible—Proverbs, Wisdom, Sirach, and Ecclesiastes—Wisdom will teach you how to actively seek out the sound guid-ance and increase your sense of peace in navigating life. In everything from friendships to finances, from making decisions to attaining peace of mind, Scrip-ture offers a vision for happiness and well-being. With this program, you will learn how to gather, gain, and grow in wisdom, and you will experience the joy it brings to your life. Meetings will be on Tuesdays at 9:00am in the formal rooms. Cost is $20 per person for materials. Please register at ckokc.org/bible-study or in the church office. FEARLESS AND FREE This Walking with Purpose Women’s Bible Study is based on the book of Ephesians. So many of us are wrestling through the reality that life isn’t easy, even when we are doing the right thing. Suffering can slam into us from left field, leaving us reeling. This study provides a firm foundation to stand on no matter what life throws our way. With an emphasis on healing and wholeness, Fearless and Free is the most personal and transformative study that Walking with Pur-pose has offered so far. Meetings will be on Tuesday evenings in June from 7:00pm-8:30pm. For information contact Kerri Beasley at 206-0637.

June Lunch & Learn Our June Lunch & Learn, which will be on Tuesday, June 11th at 11:30am to 1:00pm, will be on a very interesting topic. Pharmacist, Trang Nguyen, will be here to talk about medical marijuana/CBD oil, and what you need to know about drug interactions and adverse effects. This presentation was given at St. John’s in March, and the feedback was very positive. This is a new, and rather contro-versial topic, and I figure the more information people have the better. However, just because we are having someone come and speak about this, it in no way means that CTK is encouraging or discouraging its use. If you would like to join us for this informative talk, please call Kathy at 842-1483 and let us know.
