APRIL/MAY 2012

The Ocala Farm Ministry

would like to thank all of those

who support the ministry.

Thank you to all of the dedicat-

ed volunteers, horse farms,

and local businesses for your

support.

May God Bless You and your

efforts in the new year!

By the time many of you read this, Easter as a holy

day of observance may be over. But Easter as an event

will never be over. The resurrection of Jesus Christ

from the dead is the seminal event in the history of

Christianity.

The birth of Christ to the Virgin Mary was without

precedent and a very real manifestation of the limitless

power and imagination of Almighty God. And yet

many of the men and women who followed Christ;

who walked and talked with Him; who witnessed His

power over natural laws, over death, and sickness;

who felt His spirit of love, mercy, and forgiveness;

nevertheless did not recognize Him as the great I AM,

the Anointed One, the Son of God.

It wasn’t until He personally defeated death that

some who had doubted - and even betrayed and aban-

doned Him in the hour of death - became convinced of

who He was, of who He is. Men who denied Him be-

fore the resurrection worshipped Him as their Lord

after the resurrection.

Men who doubted Him before, put their eternal

destinies in His hands after the resurrection.

In case you are wondering, Christ is still re-

ceiving doubters, deniers, and anyone else who

wants to come to Him for salvation unto life eter-

nal. Revelation 22:17 Whosever will, may come

and take of the Water of Life freely.

Please be in prayer for Our soldiers. Those in our industry struggling to survive. Those sick, homeless or injured. For our government to start making good decisions. For the lost and lonely out there. That our horsemen, trainers, jockeys, owners, stable help be held in His hand for safety. Those needing to be saved. With these hard economic times lift each other up

and ask the Lord for help. He is listening!

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,

Because the LORD has anointed me to

the brokenhearted...proclaim liberty to the

captives, and the opening of the prison to

those who are bound…” Isaiah 61:1

Spring is here in full col-or. All across Marion County foals are being born, and children are counting the days until summer arrives and school is out. Now is the time for setting the pace for the year, and their young lives.

Teach the young the commands of God ―when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.‖ Deuteronomy 6:7

Noah taught his sons the commands of God, and when the rest of the world walked in great wickedness, his sons and their wives were saved. Noah obeyed all the Lord com-manded, and he and his family were blessed.

Noah took a long time to build the ark—to illustrate what was coming. To give people a chance to repent. Have you wondered why Jesus has not returned already and ended the evil in the world? God is giving us that same chance now. “The Lord is not slack concern-ing His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

"For lo, the winter is past and the rain is over

and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time

of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the

turtle is heard in our land." (Song of Solomon 2:11

& 12)

I love this verse! When winter is cold and

dreary, I look to this verse and remember spring is

just around the corner. (God’s beautiful yearly mini-

recreation.) Solomon tells us God’s glory radiates in

the flowers, singing birds, and unexpectedly the

voice of the turtle.

How cool is this! God gives this quiet shy

creature a voice just as He does His other creatures.

What does it sound like? Have we ever considered

God’s thoroughness? In the midst of all this beauty,

we need to be aware some of it can be toxic. Plants

we buy to beautify our landscape or volunteer in our

yards and pastures can be deadly. However, most of

them can be used if we consider the children and

animals in the vicinity. One of the most deadly is

the chinaberry. The fruit is poisonous to humans

and other mammals. Even birds spreading the seeds

may become paralyzed after ingesting them. This

plant grows in the entire state of Florida.

For additional information on using these

plants in the landscape OR for chemical and

nonchemical methods of removal

Plants To Be Aware Of This Year….

Alamanda Yellow (Allamanda Cathartica)

“Golden Trumpet” All parts of the plant contain al-

lamandina, toxic iridoid lactone. The leaves, roots and

flowers may be used in the preparation of a powerful

cathartic (hence the name) The milky sap is also known

to possess antibacterial and possibly anticancer proper-

ties. Gardeners exposed to the sap will develop rashes,

itch, and blisters.

Chinaberry (Melia azedarach) A weedy, small tree in-

troduced from China, it usually grows along roadsides

and in waste areas. The fruits are mucilaginous and

sticky, with a hard, round, marble-like seed. Birds

spread the seeds effectively, but the fruits are poison-

ous to humans and other mammals. The birds them-

selves may be paralyzed after ingesting seeds. Eating

Chinaberries can cause diarrhea, vomiting, seizures,

clammy skin, weakness, and difficulty breathing.

Lantana (Lantana camara) There are about 150 species

of perennial flowering plants native to tropical regions

of the Americas. Pets have reportedly become ill after

ingesting lantana. The unripe berries are known to be

very toxic and the foliage is toxic to livestock. Lantana

is listed as a Category I invasive exotic species by the

Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council. It is known to be

"invading and disrupting native plant communities in

Florida.

"Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majalis) Every part of

the Lily of the Valley plant is poisonous. It contains 20

poisonous glycosides. The victims are often domesticat-

ed animals because the may lily is a widely distributed

cultivated plant. Symptoms may include strong head-

ache, nausea, vomiting, slow pulse, and excessive uri-

nation.

Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum) peace lily is a tropical

plant. Depending on the variety the leaves may grow up

to a foot in length. The foliage is a deep, shiny green

and when in bloom, it may reach four feet tall The plant

is toxic. When ingested by children it can cause mouth

ulcerations, and vomiting. Even a small amount of

chewing on the leaves can be dangerous or lethal to a

dog or cat.

The Women’s Bible Study

The women’s Bible Study is growing

in number and in their knowledge of

God’s Word! They completed a won-

derful study of the Book of Revelation.

There was much within Revelation that

was pertinent to the world today. There

were many evenings of iron sharpening

iron as the women compared Scriptures

of Old and New Testaments and applied

them to their lives.

A brand new video Bible Study has

been purchased for the Book of James.

The women are in week three of the

homework. It is an eight week study

that dives into the words and the world

of James, the half-brother of Jesus

Christ, and a leader in the forming of the

early church.

The new study has multi-levels of

learning and even a challenging level—it

is a perfect fit for any level student of

God’s Holy Word.

Prayerfully consider joining these

women, or another Bible Study in your

neighborhood or group of friends.

“All Scripture is God-breathed, and is

profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for

correction, for instruction in righteous-

ness, that the man of God may be com-

plete, thoroughly equipped for every

good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16

we lifted the church roof.

The Ocala Farm Ministry crew worked overtime to put

together a wonderful Easter celebration for the children

(and their parents) on the OFM property.

The farm families and their friends decorated eggs, had

photos taken with the Easter Bunny, ate delicious cup-

cakes, and collected eggs that had been cleverly concealed

in plain sight.

This year, as she has for the last few years, Dee Miller

told the children the True Easter story. She told the story of

Holy Week and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ with a doz-

en eggs containing small objects that made the sacred, won-

derful story easier for the children to understand.

I thank the Lord for the organizing talents and hands-on

labor of the Ocala Farm Ministry board members: Vickie

Donnan, Sonya Hallligan,, Sheila DeMare, and Holly

Burke. Many thanks also to Elena, Valerie P., Fabiola A.,

Saul, Linda Grant, and Kerren Brennan. These volunteers

helped make this a fun day for so many. Of course a special

thanks to Jaqui deMeric who always manages to get the

Easter Bunny to show up at OUR event even when there are

so many other places this very popular Easter personality

could be going.

Thank you Lord for the freedom to have fun.
