It is a good idea to start just after Thanksgiving. Just flip through old study guides for 20 minutes a day! It isn’t hard to start ahead of time so that when Christmas gets here you aren’t stressing! It is just as easy to let time pass you up and you fail all 6 exams. Start over Thanksgiv-ing filling out exam study guides. Do not wait until the day before they are due! Next, I would like to tell you about exam point val-ues. Math is the smallest coming in at about 102 points, Reading depends on which teacher you have, Mrs. Dozier’s was worth 108 points, Social Studies was worth 105 points, Religion about 128 points, and English counts for about 140 points. Yes, Wordly Wise is on your exam. DO NOT STRESS JUST BECAUSE OF SCIENCE! It is worth 260 points but the questions are worth 2 points each making it about equal to the other subjects in the number of questions. Teachers allow about a month to complete exam study guides. These are just some of the details about ex-ams. Mrs. Guercio will do a guidance lesson about taking ex-ams. Remember, exams are cumulative so you have already learned it once! Remember also, a piece of paper does not make you who you are! SAS Band -KL 6th SAS students can join Band beginning in 5th grade. This year Band was offered during 6th grade Enrichment. There are lots of instruments in Band. You can play trumpet, trombone, saxo-phone, flute, and clarinet. Percussion is offered in 7th grade. Our 5th-8th Band Concert was held on Monday, April 22. This included flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, and trombones. Band is a fun and an adventurous Enrichment. It is rewarding to hear each player doing his/her part and we keep getting better and better.

Music: The Song -CK 8th The wind blows in the trees, Whistling like an angel summoning a pegasus. The keys of the piano ring out like the tears that fall down the cheek of a mother. A string vibrates like the wings of a dragonfly. Goosebumps run down my arms, I’m falling for the notes again.

Seeing Aly Raisman -CA 8th

On April 11, I went to the LSU PMAC to see Aly Raisman, a 2012 and 2016 Olympic gymnast Gold medalist, speak about her expe-riences during her gymnastics training. She spoke about her book and how she tries to empower women and girls all around the world. She wants everyone to feel happy with who they are and take advantage of who they can be. Seeing her was really

inspirational, and the advice she gave I will keep forever.

Ode To Eighth Graders -SH 7th

You’ve been waiting for this, The day you leave, The day you move on, To better places, New opportunities, We’ll miss you, When you leave, We believe, You’ll be great!

Hyperthermia -TO 7th

Hyperthermia is an exceptionally high fever especially when in-duced artificially for therapeutic purposes. The body gets danger-ously overheated, usually in relation to long, hot, and humid weather. Hyperthermia occurs when the body’s heat regulation mechanism doesn’t work correctly. Aging (60+), some illnesses, and medications increase the risk of hyperthermia. Temperatures of 104 F (40 C) or larger are life-threatening. The symptoms are confusion, nausea or vomiting, and rapid breathing. If you have hyperthermia it is important to move to a cooler place and seek medical attention or emergency care. It is most common in people from ages 6-13 and 14-18. Be sure to stay hydrated and cool dur-ing the summer. Being in the hot sun for too long in the summe is the main cause of hyperthermia! Some people often get confused between hyperthermia and hy-pothermia. Hyperthermia is when the body overheats while hypo-

thermia is when the body gets too cold.

Bad Hurricane Season for 2018? -ES 7th Currently, weather experts are saying 2018 will be just as bad or worse than 2017! This year and future years could bring worse hurricanes than Harvey, Irma, and Katrina to slam the coast, de-stroy it , and cause the coast to erode! A bad hurricane season makes lots of people think about moving out of the south! “Global Weather Oscillations (GWO) was recently cited by news media as ‘being the only major hurricane prediction organi-zation that correctly predicted the hyperactive 2017 Atlantic hurri-cane season’.” These predictions are why we should build barriers to prevent the coast from totally disappearing. It has been getting worse every single year for the past few years because of global warming! “GWO produces accurate hurricane predictions 9 months in advance for 11 United States zones from New England to Texas. GWO not only predicts how many named storms there will be, but also where they will landfall.” Maybe our cold winter and spring will have cooled down the oceans so the weather won’t be quite as severe as the predictions. All we can do is pray for the best. http://www.prweb.com/releases/2017/12/prweb14976275.htm

Air Conditioning Hack: The $7 Air Conditioner –NK 6th

Have you ever wondered why is air conditioning so expensive? Well, it is not exactly running it ; it is maintaining it. Do you think it is time to find a new cooling system? Here are the instructions to make

a $7 air conditioner. First go to Walmart and get the following:

1 styrofoam ice chest or regular ice chest

1 fan

2 dryer pipes

a roll of duct tape

and a bag of ice for each day you use the air conditioner. To start get a pencil and trace a hole on the lid about 1 inch smaller than the fan. Then cut two holes on the lid the size of the dryer pipes. If you use a regular ice chest you need to use a saw. Then put the fan over the hole. Add tape it so it stays in place. Do the same with the dryer pipes. Fill the chest with ice, put the lid on, plug in the fan, and turn it on. Now you have air conditioning for your room, outdoor fort, or your house. If you need to make your entire house cold, do this again with more ice chests. You may also want to know how to apply this information to make an air conditioner for your tent or fort outdoors when you have no electricity. Get a take out box, put a hole 1 inch smaller than your battery powered fan, put a hole on the other side, put a toilet paper roll holder and fill the box with ice. Now you have air conditioning for your tent or outdoor fort.

LSU Baseball Stats -ML 7th LSU baseball was bitten by the injury bug this season. Sophomore right-hander Eric Walker is out all season due to ‘Tommy John surgery’ (TJS) at the end of last season. Shortstop Josh Smith was out early in the season due to a back injury. Center Fielder Zach Watson was out for nine games, and second baseman Brandt Broussard was out for 3 weeks with a broken thumb. The Tigers have only had three men on reserve for most of the season: senior Nick Coomes, and freshmen Braden Doughty and Nick Webre. With all sorts of other injuries raining down on the team, they have been stretched thin. The Tigers have had their fair share of wins and losses this year. They are currently 9-9 in the SEC and 24-17 overall. GO TIGERS!!! +This is as of 4/22+

Children’s Choir Reflections -CR 5th Children’s choir is a great way to let your inner voice shine! We met every Wednesday after school to practice for an hour. On the first Sunday of every month, we sang at 11:00 AM Mass. Choir is

so much fun! Here are some opinions of my choir friends: “My favorite thing about choir is singing together. I love this be-cause I find that singing as a group is easier than singing alone.”

Appreciating Staff At SAS -AR 5th Workers and our teachers here at SAS do so much for us. They deserve more appreciation. Cafeteria staff cook the food we eat for lunch; that’s pretty important. They also clean up all the messes that we spill on the floor, and we all know that is a whole lot. Mr. Quirk’s maintenance crew keep all of our buildings and grounds in top shape from changing lighting to AC and electrical maintenance. Mr. Al is in charge of making sure all of our comput-ers and software are running smoothly. Our reception staff in the front office is fantastic! Just tell them how much we appreciate their service! Don’t you agree? We need to appreciate them more because they do so much for us! Thank you to all of the SAS staff ! During the summer, remember to thank all the people in your life who make a difference for you.
