Dear Chivenor Family, Half term starts this week (on Friday) as we have a staff training day; children should not come to school on this day! Staff from GST schools across the Midlands are meeting together to create some incredible STEM learning opportunities J (STEM is Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) We’d like to thank Greenwood Academy for inviting our Y5 and 6 pupils to go and watch their students’ performance of “WE WILL ROCK YOU” on Tuesday this week. Our pupils really enjoyed the performance, especially when they spotted ex-Chivenor friends on stage J We had a fabulous day last Friday, celebrating GST’s birthday; this is an annual Proud Tradition that occurs across all GST schools and we call this day “Founder’s Day.” We all marked the fact that Griffin Schools Trust has now been in existence for 7 brilliant years – providing amazing opportunities for children and quite literally changing lives. We are so delighted to be Griffins; we do feel our children get so many unique experiences being part of this family of schools. An important feature of this day involves contributing to our local community; thanks to all families who donated goods for us to bring to the food bank this week. I’d like to thank my staff who donated too J I wish you all a restful and enjoyable half term, Miss Donnellan Head HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRIFFIN SCHOOLS TRUST! We asked our pupils what being a Griffin means to them – here are their replies: “We get to act out Shakespeare plays at a real theatre!” “My friends at other schools don’t have as many after school clubs as we do – and they have to pay! I loved trying fencing” “I spent 3 nights in London as part of the Griffin Arts Festival last year and we watched a West End play and travelled on the underground. It was amazing.” I love art and Ive done loads of different clubs at lunchtime and after school including cartoon drawing, graffiti and weve used sewing machines!“I have learnt how to play the flute and the ukulele at school – and I am part of the school choir. We sing every Friday in celebration assembly, which was scary at first, but we are getting much better now. I was part of the group who have sang at the Barbican in London last year and I’m now going to act in Carmen!” Issue 5: Monday 11 th January 2019
