Hans Abrahamsen (b. 1952) is a unique voice in Nordic music. On this album, two of his earliest works bear wit-ness to the composer’s strong ideal of a new, simple and objective kind of music. In Landscapes, Abrahamsen rediscovers expressiveness by peel-ing away superfluous complexity, while the lyricism of Walden rests on minutely controlled minimalism. The recording by Ensemble MidtVest also presents two transcriptions of music by Schumann and Ravel, compos-ers who have inspired Abrahamsen with their naivistic and poetic musi-cal universes.
