TRAILS OF INDOCHINA HANOI - SAPA 2

“Hanoi is a great place to observe the vibrant street culture...”

The capital Hanoi is the second most populous city in the country with approximately 8 million people. Compared to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi is more traditional and refined.

Today, Hanoi is best known for its thriving contemporary arts scene and French architecture, visible in the many colonial villas scattered throughout the city. Hanoi is a great place to observe the vibrant “street culture” where daily activities such as hair cutting and eating at food stalls, take place on cramped sidewalks.

Further north is Sapa, a former French hill station, famous for its scenic landscape of mountains and rice terraces. Sapa is also home to numerous ethnic groups including the Black Hmong and Red Dzao, known for their colourful handmade textiles.

TRAILS OF INDOCHINA HANOI - SAPA 4

Hanoi is the birthplace of many popular traditional Vietnamese dishes including ‘pho’ and ‘bun cha’. It is also home to some of the finest French and fusion restaurants in the country. As a gastronomic capital, Hanoi has ample choices of food and dining to please individual palettes.
