WHO WERE THEY?

Hanna-Barbera was a production company who made cartoons. The company was run by two people named Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera. They were famous for cartoons such as: The flintstones, The smurfs and scooby doo.

Hanna Barbera studios were based in Universal City, California.

ANIMATION TECHNIQUES USED?

One of the key animation techniques that Hanna-Barbera used was limited animation which is a process of making animated cartoons that does not redraw entire frames but rather reuse common parts between frames. It’s a process which aims to to reduce the overall number of drawings.

Good, mostly wholesome family fun-Teen, 13 years old

This is a great show for children-Teen, 17 year old

Very entertaining. Easy to figure out the criminal, but it’s fun to watch how the monsters creep up on them.- Kid, 12 year old

Scooby Doo

The classic ones are more original than the new ones.- Teen, 14 year old

JOSEPH BARBERA- Born in New York City, March 24th 1911

- Attended college and began his career in NYC

- Displayed talent for drawing as early as 1st grade

- Graduated from Erasmus Hal High School, Brooklyn (1928)

- Won several boxing titles whilst in high school

- Died in LA, California, December 18th 2006

WILLIAM HANNA- Born in New Mexico, July 14th 1910

- Attended Compton High school from 1925 through 1928

- Played the saxophone in a dance band

- Helped write songs for his cartoons including the theme for The Flintstones – due to his passion for music in school

- Studied both journalism and structural engineering at Compton City College but had to drop out of college because of the onset of the Great Depression

- Died in LA, California, March 22nd 2001

THEIR INFLUENCE• Their cartoon animations show picked up momentum due

to its response from views and logically, the television networks e.g. shows such as: Tom and Jerry, Smurfs etc

• With its success of its shows where their characters captured the attention of young children, they began to produce more well-known cartoon animations e.g. the fantastic four of marvel comics
