Greater than the sum...

UI-CORE TRANSFORMERMost manufacturers continue to use the popular toroidal transformer as they are relatively cheap and compact in size. After extensively testing many types of transformer technologies ourselves including toroidal, it was obvious that we needed to go in a different direction. The only solution for us was to design our own UI-core transformer and after four years of development, we have done just that. Remember that a transformer is a key component and the UI-core transformer in our products is exceptional! While incredibly expensive, large and very heavy, our UI-core transformer brings increased stability to the soundstage, stronger, deeper dynamics and firmer control of demanding loudspeakers. We prove that power output tells only half the story... think quality and not quantity!

TOPOLOGYFor the small signal stages we use ultra linear, low noise bipolar transistors paired with high precision resistors. For large signal stages we use the best possible linear transistors.

We use absolutely no global feedback and have spent many hours optimising PCB layout ensuring tracks are routed in the best possible way for exceptional speed and bandwidth.

MEASURESophisticated measuring equipment is used throughout the whole design process, which helps us reach a certain point. However to complete the journey, we use the best measurement tool known to man - human ears!

Field tests have a huge impact on the final results. However instead of inviting the test panel to our demo room for a short period of time, we demo our products in their rooms, on their equipment – leaving the products for a longer period of time.

This ensures real value in the feedback we get on our products performance.

EMOTION ENGINEVitus Audio products are created for the music and not for a price point. Many of the components used in our products are custom designed and made exclusively for Vitus Audio. Why?

FITAs with the electronics, our mechanical design leaves nothing to chance as we use no magnetic material for our chassis and only pure aluminium/stainless steel. We also choose our partners very carefully, seeking only specialists in their respected fields. Every single part goes through a rigorous quality control process after each stage in production. We even hand carry all parts between the different manufactures to avoid any form of damage during transportation. With our final rigorous quality control process, only the parts that actually make it through this extreme process are assembled (all in-house) to create a product that will stand the test of time.

QUALITYBefore any product leaves our factory, it undergoes a thorough testing period of approximately one week. During this period we take all the circuitry to its absolute limits, in both temperature, signal conditioning and supply rails.

When this full week of stressing the electronics is completed – we leave the product operating for another week – securing optimal performance in sound – and functionality of the test circuitry.

CAREEvery Vitus Audio piece is carefully packed in protective foam, which is then housed in substantial packaging suitable for transport. Our larger/heavier products even have a dedicated wooden crate, which has been built specially for that product.

The Reference Series, was the first series ever introduced by Vitus Audio, back in 2003. The initial two products were the very well reviewed and awarded battery power supplied:

Even though the Reference Series represent our entry level products, they incorporate many specialist/custom parts. This has proven an expensive but necessary must in order to keep our highly regarded musical performance - an area in which we refuse to compromise.

While the battery power supply is history, the overall goal of the Reference Series remains unchanged - setting a new standard for sound quality at the price point. A bold, but for us - a true statement. Once you have heard the performance of this amplifier, we are convinced you will agree.

The RI-100 is the first new product in the Reference Series. It is a fully integrated amplifier, which includes an optional phonostage and dac. In it's full configuration, the RI-100 will act as a standalone control center, which takes both analog and digital sources of any kind. It also incorporates a full bypass function for use with external surround processors.

Although the RI-100 does not have our usual class A mode, it's class AB setting is adjusted for maintaining the same musical performance as our class A amplifiers.

Signature Series | EXTREME

The CD Drive selected for the SCD-010 has been stripped down to its basic mechanical and electronic parts and totally rebuilt. This ensures a lower level of errors in reading the digital information on the discs, which leaves the error correction system in the drive with much less work to do.

The digital audio part has been taken to the extreme. From day one we decided to use sample rate conversion, to minimise jitter. However instead of using a standard solution from ADI or TI, we chose the DSP based module from Anagram Technologies. First of all we gain higher flexibility, as this module is programmable and can be upgraded for newer standards. Secondly we achieve a sample rate of 384KHz where the current limit on standard solutions is 192KHz. The higher the sample rate the higher the bandwidth. As Anagram Technologies designed a masterclock module to fully support their sample rate conversion modules – the choice was easy – however a very expensive one.

The analog stage uses our highly regarded topology taken directly from our amplifiers. It is a discrete coupling, which uses zero feedback, ultra linear transistors and high precession resistors. The resulting open loop bandwidth lies at 2.5MHz and gives a very linear phase response, which is one of the key elements for correct musical harmony.

The power supply is split into 4 different and completely separate supplies. One each for the drive and digital audio part and two for the analog stage (left and right).

We believe the SCD-010 is bringing "musical performance" into the digital domain.

The SIA-025 has been designed to accommodate many of our customers requests, for a real integrated amplifier in our high performance Signature Series.

But as usual, our design team went an extra mile. The result is not only an amplifier with 5 inputs (balanced and unbalanced), a preamplifier output (for biamping purposes) and balanced speaker outputs - it raises our technology to a new level of integration of parts.

Integration was a major challenge, but necessary to fit all the parts into the fairly small chassis, which the SIA-025 shares with its siblings - the SS-010 and SS-050.

The output stage of the SIA-025, is taken from the SM-010 monaural amplifiers - sized to fit within one chassis with a balanced input buffer. The main task for this buffer, is to separate the new simplified relay based volume control from the selected source.

By putting all our efforts into developing this true balanced integrated class A amplifier, we succeeded in making the new higher level of integration perform to the standards that any customer would expect from our Signature Series.

SIA-025 adds more flexibility in terms of more inputs, the possibility of bi-amping should it be needed and lastly a full bypass function for enabling compatibility with external surround processors.

Together with our SCD-010, this amplifier will form a simple, cool looking system that delivers an incredible performance.

The SL-010 is an unbalanced version of the legendary Signature Linestage SL-101.

Using the same topology as the SL101, it takes full advantage of the ultra linear - all discrete - gainstages developed when the SL-101 was introduced in 2005. This is also true for the relay based volume, which currently is in its 3rd generation. Lastly let's not forget the power supply.

Even though the SL-010 is an unbalanced linestage, primarily designed to drive the SS-010 and SS-050, we also included a true balanced output buffer, driving the one balanced output. With this, it is possible to combine the SL-010 with any of our true balanced power amplifiers like our current SS-101, SM-010 and SM-101.

Based on another request from the market, we introduced an optional phonostage for building directly into the SL-010. This phonostage is based on the well reviewed RP-100, (please refer to the Reference Series on page 9 and our web site under reviews), however without the battery supply. This phonostage has recently undergone a major redesign and delivers a performance very close to the original RP-100.

As with our other linestages, a full bypass feature has been implemented. This allows external surround processors to take full control of the volume, when used in multichannel systems.

Starting from scratch!

The SP-101 replacement has arrived. After spending a very long time developing the new two chassis MP-P201 extreme phonostage (see page 26 for details), it was clear that a serious look at a replacement for the SP-101 was needed.

In the development of the MP-P201, we did not expect that the improvement in performance would be so dramatic, but all the hours of refining, even the smallest of parts, really paid off in an unimaginable way.

As a result, the SP-102 is not an upgraded SP-101. It is a brand new design based on the technologies gained through the development of the MP-P201.

It therefor incorporates the same features for setting, both loading and sensitivity via our RC-010 systems remote or directly from the front.

Instead of the normal MM/MC selection, we implemented a very flexible gain setting feature. The actual setting correlates to the output voltage of the cartridge being used. To be as flexible as possible, we scanned the market for all the different types of cartridges we could find, simply to allow the resolution of the gainsteps to be as optimal as possible. The result gives perfect matching with output voltages ranging from 125uV - 10mV.

Together with our well known true balanced, full discrete technologies, we believe the SP-102 together with the MP-P201, sets a new standard for analogue reproduction.

The SS-010 is designed as a stereo power amplifier.

During the development period, we were in close contact with our cooperating partners around the world, receiving a lot of valuable input. This led to the implementation of our relay based "one resistor" volume and an input stage to isolate it from the source. This gives customers the option of not using the typically poor digital volume control implemented in most digital equipment.

While 25wpc (8 ohms) is not much compared to todays "standard", you will be in for a big surprise with the SS-010. As always Vitus Audio is not content with fashion and our only interest is being true to musical performance. This is indeed true for the SS-010, which is far more powerful than the power rating implies. One of the major contributors to this statement, is the custom designed transformer, which is used throughout our product range. It enables a much higher level of stability in power, than any of todays widely used toroidal transformers.

Matched with the SL-010, it will add a higher level of flexibility and give the possibility to adding another SS-010 and turning them into a fully balanced pair of SM-010.

Everyone who hears an SS-010 immediately falls in love with it, but for some it does not have enough power for their loudspeaker/room size combination. After many requests, we went about addressing this in the form of not one but two new products - the SS-050 and SM-010.

Based on the SS-010 design, the SS-050 takes the same striking performance and pushes it to a higher level of power, which is the most noticeable difference between the SS-010 and SS-050.

The soundstage is wider, deeper and the bass much tighter. The SS-050 also allows for matching with a larger choice of loudspeaker, particularly inefficient models.

Everyone who hears an SS-010 immediately falls in love with it, but for some it does not have enough power for their loudspeaker/room size combination. After many requests we went about addressing this in the form of not one but two new products - the SS-050 and SM-010.

The SM-010 is a perfect way of upgrading your SS-010. This is done by adding a second SS-010 to the one you have already and having them modified into a full balanced monaural amplifier. The modification itself is a simple one and can easily be handled by your local dealer.

The added power and true balanced configuration, gets you really close to the SM-101 performance, but in a much smaller chassis. In direct comparison with the SS-010, it adds another level of control, "blackness", inner details and both micro and macro dynamics.

reference, a sort after classic and collectors piece in it's own right for

The Masterpiece Series has in fact been on our internal road map for some years, but was not supposed to be introduced until 2011. However as the number of requests from the market increased, we decided to bring development forward and launch this very special series early. We think it is somewhat fitting for a range of products that are ahead of their time!

The complexity of all the MP products has put our engineering team to the test, as the technology used in the Signature Series needed to be pushed to the extreme, to satisfy our expectations for the new Masterpiece Series. To reach this level, we had to re-qualify all parts from component level and up. Further more, many new custom made parts were developed, pushing our subcontractors technology to the limit of "possible".

Getting beyond the quality of the transport used in our SCD-010 proved to be a difficult task and dramatic approaches were needed. The drive itself is the same heavily modified Philips Pro used in the SCD-010, but with even greater level of mechanical and now electrical modifications, which refine the quality even further. On top of this, we included both the masterclock and sample rate modules found in the SCD-010. These enable higher precision clock for the drive and minimise jitter within the transport itself.

The power supply has an - extreme - level of regulation and power. This ensures an absolute unheard of stability and ultra low noise floor.

As the design of the MP-T201 is totally modular, different interfaces can be added as their technology satisfies our high quality demands.

The MP-D201 is the supreme level of digital control centres. It has all the needed I/O's to interface to basically everything digital and with it's modular design, new interfaces can be added as their technologies satisfy our high quality demands. With the built in masterclock and sample rate conversion, it reduces jitter to the lowest level possible. Combined with the four stereo dacs in the analog stage - it gives the best possible precision achievable with todays technologies.

The analog stage uses the same type of discrete modules found in the MP-P201 and MP-L201 and offers true balanced configuration - including our well-known relay based volume - optimized for the MP-D201. This offers superior performance over any digital volume on the market today. Used together with a separate preamplifier, the build in volume can naturally be fully bypassed.

All true balanced discrete gainstages in the MP-L201 are based on shielded modules, which incorporates a very high level of integration. Each module is moulded with special damping material, which takes care of both mechanical resonances and stability in temperature. This gives optimal working conditions for the circuitry.

An optional active sub bass crossover is also available. This has been designed to offer full integration with larger speaker systems with active subs, as they very often include a compromised digital amplifier(s)/filter(s). Using this feature, a full suite of our power amplifiers can be used to drive pretty much any speaker systems without any limitations.

The external power supply provides both filtering and a very high level of regulation. A total of 24 regulations in the external power supply alone gives a very stable and noise free supply - even before it arrives to the amplifier itself.

The MP-P201 uses the same discrete gainstage modules developed for the MP-L201, however it has been optimized for a much lower noise level. This is essential in order to keep the very high musical performance with even the lowest output cartridges available on the market today.

Gain selection on the MP-P201 is based on the output voltage from the cartridge. This is the most effective and optimal way of ensuring perfect balance between the cartridge and the phonostage. Setting the correct load has also been made as user friendly as possible. The four load boards in the MP-P201 provides a total of 16 different load values.

The external power supply is shared with the MP-L201 and gives the first extreme level of line regulation. This ensures the lowest possible noise level, even before the supply reaches the actual phonostage circuitry.
