HAMILTON PHILHARMONIC YOUTH ORCHESTRA 2014 audition requirements Preparing for an audition without some experienced guidance can seem like a daunting task. If you do not currently have a private teacher and would like to find one, contact the HPYO for a teacher recommendation. 1. Solo of your choice: Please be prepared to play approximately ONE MINUTE of a polished, recital-ready solo piece (or equivalent etude). Your solo piece need not be memorized. 2. Orchestral Excerpt: There are two musical examples below. Please select ONE of the two excerpts and prepare only the sections within the red brackets. If you are unfamiliar with the excerpts, consult with your private teacher or a coach who is familiar with them. We strongly suggest that you listen to a recording or live performance of the excerpts. 3. Scales: You may be asked to play any of the following 2-octave major scales: C, B-flat, F, G, D, A, E-flat. If you play and have access to a bass clarinet and would like to be considered, please prepare a short selection of your choice for your audition. Good luck, and see you on September 13th!
