Now in its 10th year, the annual WISPA (Women and girls In Sport & Physical Activity) event was a great day out for Year 9 girls. The event provided the opportunity for the girls to take part in 12 exciting activities with the aim to encourage and inspire more girls into regular physical activity. This included Wheelchair Basketball, Zumba, Street Dance, Cheerleading and Kickboxing. WISPA aims to overcome the various barriers girls face in participating in physical activity and sport and en-courages continued participation.

Above: Our girls met Great Britain's London 2012 Judo bronze medallist Karina Bryant.

Leicestershire & Rutland County FA, The FA, England Hand-ball and StreetGames invited our year 9 girls to take part in a secondary school sport festival. The StreetGames ‘Us Girls’ programme supported the event by offering access to health and wellbeing services and opportunities to re-ceive free mini beauty treatments; providing a perfect complement to the handball and football activities. These additional wellbeing offers made the event feel like a day out for the girls and gave them some time to dedicate to themselves. There was also an interactive trailer with iPads/Wii games and the FA WSL trophy. In addition to this there were batak boards to test speed reaction, a speed shot, target shoot and 4 v 4 inflatable pitch.

FOOTBALL AT GOALS

Our year 9 girls took part in the School Games foot-ball tournament this term. They were fantastic and came third out of twelve schools. Our very own Jenna Mai Smith was the top goal scorer of the tournament.

Loughborough University PGCE Student Charlotte Raey is currently completing her Phase two at HCC.
