FRIDAY ASSEMBLY 2.30pm in the hall. No class item.
Principal`s Message
I have been absolutely amazed by the caring and thoughtful nature of all of our students! Since my
arrival I have witnessed all students demonstrating our school values. The value of Heart has been
shining brightly throughout our school. This week we have had many students doing ‘Random Acts
of Kindness’. Well Done HNPS students, you are amazing!
Wonderful Writers!! Since my arrival at HNPS I have been inundated with quality work
from proud students and teachers. Yesterday I had the pleasure of
reading some spooky stories from 1/2. K/1 have been writing
descriptions and I was impressed with their ideas, language and
punctuation. 2/3 spoilt me yesterday with my very own postcards! KP
have been learning about adjectives and are always keen to try hard
and share their success.
Well Done Students! Well Done Teachers!
School Disco – Thank you P&C What an amazing night, my very first Halloween Disco at HNPS! I can see why
students have been eagerly awaiting the disco. I was in awe of the costumes, so
much creativity! One of my hardest decisions since arriving at HNPS was
choosing the Best Dress, as I could easily give every student a prize. Thanks to
Artemis and Pete for creating an awesome disco atmosphere with non-stop
music, games and competitions. Thanks to parents for also supporting this disco,
your creativity with your child/ren’s costumes was outstanding.
An enormous thank you to the P&C
P&C Meeting Our P&C meeting has been rescheduled for this coming Monday 4th November at Hamilton North
Bowling Club from 6pm-8pm. I look forward to meeting with the P&C, with many items to discuss.
If you have not been to a P&C meeting for a while or if you have never been to one, we would love to
see you.
Canteen I would like to thank Shelly for her work as Canteen Manager. I have had many discussions with the community, parents and staff who have so many positive things to say about Shelly and her work in the canteen. This Friday will be Shelly’s last day in the canteen before she starts a new job. We wish her all the very best. The school is looking for volunteers to ensure the canteen continues to operate for the remainder of
the year, ceasing operation in Week 9 and 10 for end of year celebrations. If you are available to assist
in the canteen for Weeks 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 or any time during these weeks please contact Shelly or our
school office. Our canteen is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with Friday being one of our
busiest days.
Digital Media Festival
Only one more sleep to go! Our Digital Media Festival is on tomorrow night from 4.30pm-9pm. Our
Dance Group have been busy practicing with Miss Stewart and we can’t wait to see our Film on the
huge LED screen! We look forward to seeing you there.
School Leaders 2020 I had the pleasure of meeting with our Year 5 students this week to discuss School Leadership
positions for 2020. Students received a note on Monday which outlines our process and important
dates. Mrs Edwards, Ms Evans, Mrs Milgate and I all look forward to supporting our students as they
prepare their speech and enter into leadership positions. Thank you to our current Year 6 students
who were available to talk to our Year 5 students on Monday, you are amazing role models!
World Teachers Day Last Friday we celebrated World Teacher Day. It was a great opportunity for everyone to recognise and appreciate our teachers and the important role they play in shaping the next generation. This year, the focus was on #brightfuture. The #brightfuture of the profession and the #brightfuture of our students. Thank you to our amazing teachers at HNPS! I have only been
working with you for a short while however I instantly recognised
your dedication to each and every child at HNPS, your collegiality
and dedication to making the education community great!
Upcycle Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of visiting Upcycle with Ms
Piazzolla and some of our students from the Environment Club. I
could not even imagine what I would see there … the room was full of
creativity, clever volunteers and loads of inspiration. Please read Ms
Piazzolla’s report about this wonderful experience. Thank you to the
team at Upcycle, we look forward to continuing to work with you all.
Arrival and Pick Up – Keeping Safe An important safety message for our parents and carers picking up children at the end of the day.
Please use the front school gate. The back school gate is for staff traffic only. This area is out of
bounds for our students. With high traffic and limited visibility in busy times this area is not safe for
children. Thank you for your understanding.
Safe Online Callaghan College have invited our Year 5 and Year 6 parents to a Parent Information Session about how to keep our kids safe when they are online. Safe on Social Media delivers real life case studies and strategies to help parents support their children. The session will be held at the University of Newcastle on
Wednesday 6 November 2019. Please join us from 5.45pm, for a
6pm start. This session is open to all Callaghan College parents/carers and we are very pleased to extend the invitation to parents/carers with children in years 5 and 6 at our partner primary schools (please note, that it is an adult-only session, due to some of the content covered). Volunteers and Visitors to our School As I mentioned in a previous newsletter, we are extremely fortunate to have a number of our
volunteers in our school helping our students and our teachers. A reminder if you are in the school to
help or work in the classroom, please ensure you sign in at the front office. In accordance with
Department of Education policy we have to ensure all of our Working with Children Check
procedures are up to date. Our lovely office staff will be able to assist you with this if you have not
volunteered previously.

Environment Club Newsletter UPCYCLE VISIT Last Wednesday some of our Environment Club
members enjoyed an inspirational trip to Upcycle
to pick materials for our Market Garden banner
designed by Erin and Xanthia. We were blown
away by all the things that were being upcycled (waste turned into new
products). Even soy sauce fish and bubble wrap can be used for lettering on
banners and bunting. Ms Noble and Ms Piazzolla were impressed that even
every thread and tiny fabric offcut is used to stuff cushions, poofs, toys and
door snakes. This is what our members had to say.
Alice “The recycled denim dresses”
Ruby “The scrunchies”
Anna “We learned that most things we throw out can be upcycled”.
Bek “The recycled plastic bag dresses and the fact that absolutely NOTHING is wasted.
During the visit we selected the fabric for our banner as well as materials to create the pictures and
the lettering. Upcycle is open during the week and every second Saturday. Take the time to visit and
be inspired.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Annie for organising this and also to Cathy who has take
the time to teach us about upcycling as well as helping us to create our banner.
MARKET GARDEN
This week we have bunches of mixed greens, lettuce, berries, limes, herbs, broadbeans and Buy our fresh herbs to enhance the flavour of your cooking. Buy organic from us and cut down on supermarket plastic packaging. We are cheap and fresh!!
NSW Premiers Sporting Challenge – Ambassador Visit During Term 3, Hamilton North Public School participated in the 2019 NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge which encouraged students to participate and record their levels of physical activity. This challenge main focus is to get more students, more active, more often.
As part of this valuable initiative, our school was lucky enough to have Samantha Poolman, a PSC Ambassador visit our school to conduct a specialised netball clinic. Samantha, a born and bred Newcastle girl, currently plays for the Giants and has a strong reputation as an elite athlete and a very strong competitor. For 45 minutes, students from 1/2S along with our very own netball stars, participated in a personalised skills clinic. They had the opportunity to learn specific netball skills and drills in an active and fun environment. Samantha was a natural with the students and engaged them for the entire time even though the weather was very unrelenting. After the clinic, Samantha encouraged the students to ask questions, posed for photos and was more than delighted to sign autographs. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students who not only had lots of fun, but they learnt some new skills and met a local professional athlete.
