Chalkboard—Term 4 Week 5 Wednesday 13th November 2019
FRIDAY ASSEMBLY 2.30pm in the hall. No class item.
Principal`s Message
Farewell Mrs Milgate
This Friday we farewell the beautiful Mrs Milgate! Mrs Milgate has been working with Year 5/6 since the
beginning of Term 3. I have had the pleasure of working with Mrs Milgate this term and in that time I have
watched her support and guide our students. She has entertained everyone, including staff, with funny
stories and antics. I wish I had heard the story at last weeks assembly that was titled, ‘Mrs Moogate’. Not
only has Mrs Milgate been an asset to our students she has also been an asset to our community and staff.
You will be greatly missed! We wish you all the very best returning to your school.
Remembrance Day
I had the pleasure of taking our School Leaders, Lainey, Joseph, Kynan and Ashleigh to the Remembrance
Day Service at Gregson Park on Tuesday. Our leaders laid a tribute and represented our school with pride.
Thanks to Mrs Milgate and our senior students for organising our Remembrance Day service at school.
Year 5 Leadership Speeches
Next week we are looking forward to listening to our Year 5 Students who will be presenting their speech for
Leadership positions in 2020. Parents are invited to attend. Parents and students received a note last week to
advise of dates and times of their speeches. Speeches will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at
2.05pm in the school hall.
Sustainability Grant
We are currently in the process of applying for a sustainability grant with the Department of Education. A
team of teachers will be working together this afternoon to prepare our application. Grants are available for
up to $15000. Our Environmental Club, students and community members have put forth suggestions about
where to next in our sustainable school environment. It is great to see a whole school community united
towards ensuring we are a sustainable school.
Lemonade Stall – Thanks Environmental Club and Mrs Piazzolla
Thanks to our amazing Environmental Club and Mrs Piazzolla for
organising our Lemonade Stall yesterday! What a huge success and a
delicious treat it was, especially on a very hot day. Students purchased
cold lemonade at lunch and also again at home time. It was great to see
parents also enjoying our lemonade!
Canteen
A reminder we need canteen volunteers to work in our school canteen on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Please see Shannon or the front office if you can assist. Thanks once again to Shannon for working in the
canteen so that it can remain open for three days a week.
Quality Work
I am always inundated with quality work from students, there are so many wonderful things happening
throughout all classrooms! I had the pleasure to read with Kindergarten this week, see amazing writing from
2/3, talk to mathematicians throughout our school and watch STEM projects being bought to life by 2/3.
Pool Fun Day
We are all looking forward to our Pool Fun Day on the 12th December at Wallsend Pool. We will spend the
morning at the pool and return to school at approximately 12pm. Students will then have a movie afternoon
with their class, avoiding sunburn. A permission note with more details and costings will follow. Thanks to
Mrs Evans for organising this event.
HNPS Idol – 25th November – 29th November
I am so excited for our upcoming HNPS Idol! We have many students who are interested and are busy
practicing. It is a buzz of excitement at lunch and recess with students practicing. Thanks to Mrs Edwards
for all of her organisation in making this possible. Your encouragement for our students is commendable.
