INTERIOR DESIGN
Hamda Hamed Lahej is an Emariti interior design student at Zayed University, born in Dubai in 1991. She was born into a family of artists and architects that apperciate design and design practice. She had taken courses in art and design; photography, painting, printmaking, three-dimensional design, methods of construction, interior designs studios and basic architecture. Her work is inspired by everyday life and transforming it into an abstract forms. However, her interest varies between different fields from interior design to fashion design extending to jewelry design.
ART STATEMENT
ART STATEMENTThe world consists of needs and wants. I believe that the work of designing can solve problems through the sharing of knowledge and wisdom. My vision is to create a functional and aesthetic design to address my ‘wants’ by assisting in the ‘needs’ of others. I would like to concentrate on people who are usually ignored, like people with special needs. Every human being wants to be loved, yet these individuals many times lack this need. I feel that this category of people have the potential to contribute to the society as regular citizens in the world. But they are ignored or neglected by the society. We as designers can create the space to help them in their needs that are not addresses or fully taken in consideration in order to achieve their goals.
My own experiences and reflections play an important role in my designs. My dream is to create my unique design signature that refines me and helps improves people’s lives at the same time. My role models are my father, mother and grandmother. My grandmother is a profound source of my inspiration because she taught me how to fight for hope. She was suffering from a strong stroke, which kept her in the wheelchair. It was therefore difficult for her to express her feelings, so she started to paint. Additionally, Thomas Heatherwick is an English designer who is also one of my role models in the design field because of his use of innovative materials to create new environment, which are human-centred. As I’m learning from these role models, I’m aiming to contribute in the society and to create innovative spaces for people to express themselves.
