Our first stop on the Southeast Asia adventure cruise aboard the Holland America Volendam is
a stop at Ha Long Bay (Halong Bay, Vietnam). This is our first Vietnamese port and after walking
around the main street along the beach we board a junk boat for a day of cruising on the bay.
We thought we were going out on a small junk boat cruise of Halong Bay, but when we got to
the pier, we were really surprised that waiting for us was actually a huge double-decker
houseboat with 6 staff for the 4 of us, including a gift shop! Turns out some of the owner
operators of these types of boats actually live on them so they are very familiar with the coastal
waters and the different places to explore in Ha Long Bay. Read more…
