Masthead /TaglinesThe masthead gives the audience the idea that the film is about something scary and horrific . The masthead also gives the audience the idea that the film is unusual and is one to watch . Example the masthead has been written in capital letters to enthuse the importance of the film.

The masthead Font is very informal as it suggests that the film could be based around something that is fiery and dangerous. The colour red connotes fire and danger and also blood which again implies that there could be dangerous scenes, then red /orange also connotes superiority as it stands out . The masthead has been positioned at the bottom of the page on top of a black background which allows us to see a contrast between the both colours black and red , the red/orange is a strong colour which directly grabs the audiences attention. The black background at the bottom of page is connoting boldness and whereas the red is connoting danger. The masthead stands out on the film poster so it can not be missed, it also links back to the background image of the film poster. “Halloween” is associated with devilish themes .

The tagline on this film poster has been situated at the top of the page so that the audience are able to notice it first and make assumptions about what type of film this could be . The world “EVIL” already gives the audience an idea about what will be included in the film , the word evil is associated with negativity. There Tagline being “ Evil has a destiny” is in white and white connotes purity and innocence however the word “EVIL” comes across as negative and dull it is associated with colours such as red which again connotes danger or blood , this link into the idea of the tagline contrasting well against the red explosive background.

Misenscene

The background image is of a mans face / a man wearing a mask . We can tell this by the hair ,which is also presented as an explosion , the cheek bones also seem very muscular . The facial expressions of the character connote seriousness as there is no smile or smirk on the face of the character , we see this form the use of a close up shot / midshot . However this film poster presents a two show as there is another character facing his back to the audience .

The background image is the strongest image on the page it portrays two things , 1) An Explosion and 2) A characters thoughts and feelings . The image of the mans face includes different montages of people with different facial impressions example a girl running and shouting and a boy/ man looking terrified . The title Halloween creates an anchorage with the background image , “HALLOWEEN” consists of devilish unfriendly, evil vibes and costumes (masks and black gowns). The audience can assume that the background image is a killer or someone that everyone in the film should be aware of . The position of the background image is very direct the mask/mans face is looking directly forward which bring in the audience to have full attention it draws the audience into the genre itself which is slasher/horror.

There is a character ( man) facing the background image ( mask/mans face ) which could be a wall. We known from the masthead “Halloween” that there are many elements to this festival people dress up deliberately to look scary they wear things like masks. The background image could connote the two sides to the man standing facing the mask he could be a killer or a danger to others. The man facing the mask has his backed turned this could be because he is trying to hide his identity from either the public or the police . This character is dressed in all back connoting his power and status ,he is also holding a knife which connotes he may be a killer who uses his knifes unpleasantly . The character is also holding a mask in his left hand which resembles the one he is facing ( the background image ) it may imply that he is in two different minds , he could be a psychopath recapping all his missions and looking back at the people he has hurt, he is content with all that he has done.

The destroyed house in the background may reveal to the audience that the character comes from a broken home and that’s why he is willing to kill and harm other people. This refers back to the conventions of slasher / horror film genres who usually have a killer and a victim . Most killers in a film genre like slasher/horror have a killer who abusive people because of there past problems they may suffer from mental illness. These people are known as psychopaths there is a reason behind to why the trigger and hurt people it could be because of family reasons or just how they think .

The house also connotes “Trick or Treat” which links back to the masthead of the film poster “Halloween” . We know that during Halloween people in scary costumes come dressing up as scary people . The character in this film poster may be hiding his identity because on Halloween he goes to peoples houses and strikes them.

Layout

The layout for this poster is very unique and attractive the colours grab the attention of the audience directly .

The tagline on a film poster is normally positioned somewhere underneath or on the side of the masthead , however in this film poster the tagline is the fist thing you notice . The tagline reads “ Evil has no destiny “ in capital letters . The tagline plays an important role in this film poster as it reveals part of the film genre and what type of scene s the audience should be expecting to see. Already we know that Halloween associates with dark and creepy themes , Halloween is also referred to as evil . The word “Evil” connotes negativity .

The masthead on this film poster has been positioned at the bottom of the page to create an anchorage with the background image , the background image and masthead have the same colour scheme which gives the film poster a sense of fiery life . The film Halloween which is the masthead is positioned at the bottom of the page which grabs the attention of the audiences as it is in capitals and in a red lively font which connotes danger . The masthead also brings attention to the audience because it contrast well with the black background .

The main physical character has been positioned in the middle of the page which connotes his dominance as he is wearing black which connotes power and boldness. The idea that the character is facing backwards shows that maybe there is a part of him that he does not want to reveal to the public , so it is up to the audience to create assumptions about this specific character.
