Costumes that are usually popular are those that are topical and in the public eye so to speak – this means recent movies, controversial real life figures, celebrities and things like that. Monster High Costumes – What's It All About ?

Monster High is fictional high school that is attended by the offspring of former Hollywood monsters – Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Mummy, Wolfman and monsters of that genre. They were made popular in movies from the 1950's through to the 1960's. But time has moved on since the “oldies” had their last hurrah's. Now the kids are showing them how it's

done and they are a whole different animal so to speak.

The kids of these Hollywood monsters are trendy and fashion conscious. They look good, dress in the latest gear and seem to have all the hopes, dreams and problems that an everyday human teenager attending junior high or High school might face.

What's more, each kid has their own very unique issues that stem from their genetic background. For instance, one of the main characters at Monster high is Clawdeen Wolf. She is the daughter of the Wolfman and consequently she has werewolf like tendencies from time to time. She will howl at the full moon and go a bit weird when it is out. Also, being a wolf, she also is extremely hairy and a bit self conscious about her hairiness (see the Clawdeen Wolf costume for a picture of this look).

This actually raised a few eyebrows when these characters first came out as it seemed to be creating a role model (all be it a somewhat quirky role model) for young girls that had a hang up and was paranoid about her appearance. This was not the kind of personality trait that adults wanted young impressionable girls to identify with. The makers of the Monster High concept, toy makers Mattel claimed this wasn't the intention of the concept but more a reflection of the issues that young girls might face. It does seem a bit odd though given the

Other characters are not so “neurotic” shall we say and have a bit more fun with their inherited characteristics. For instance, Frankie Stein is the offspring (or creation) of Frankenstein's monster. Like her father she was only born or sparked into life a few days before she actually began attending Monster high school. Thus she is very naive and is always saying things out of place or not quite understanding what is going on. This is used to create many comical situations in various episodes of the Monster High Series (see the Frankie Stein costume for a picture of Frankie).

Another thing about Monster High that is very hip and trendy is that the stories are posted on youtube in cartoon format. So given the way that you watch the series and the characters in the webisodes (as they are called) the target audience are young girls – say 10 to 12, maybe even a bit younger too.

Monster High Costumes

So it's no surprise to learn that you can get Monster High costumes.

Currently you can only get the main five characters – Clawdeen Wolf, Draculaura, Frankie Stein, Cleo De Nile and Lagoona Blue. The costumes are pretty faithful to the look that the characters had when we first met them. And the costumes are also licensed by Mattel the creators of the concept so they should be fairly accurate representations.

For any fans of the characters and the series this will be a fun costume to wear for Halloween or any sort of fancy dress party. If there are 5 friends they could even coordinate their costumes so that each one is a separate character out of the series. They can act out their favorite episodes of the series or even invent their own.
