All students have physical education once every five days.

Physical education class primarily focuses on:

-Spacial Awareness (personal space, levels, pathways, directions)

-Cooperation

-Locomotor movement skills (power walk, skip, gallop, hop, jump, slide,

jog, run, etc.)

-Manipulative Skills (throwing, catching, kicking, underhand toss, etc.)

-Fitness Skills

All students in 2nd-5th grade have physical education once per six day cycle.

Students build on previous skills and transfer their skills and knowledge to more advanced physical

activities and sport games.

Elementary Physical Education Units Include:

-Basketball

-Soccer

-Baseball/softball

-Volleyball

-Floor hockey

-Cooperative Activities

-Fitness games

In addition to physical education, all students in 3rd & 5th grade

have health class once per six day cycle.

Club Fit- After school physical activity club for 5th graders. Typically, we meet most

Mondays after school until 5pm.

Staff Wellness Programs- Coordinate FREE staff wellness programs

for the district, which are available to all HASD staff. Currently, approximately 50 staff members

are participating in “Cardio 2 Carolina”, which promotes healthy eating and exercise.

8th grade Digestion ProjectStudents write a story about their favorite

food’s journey through the Digestive Process.

7th grade Tobacco ProjectStudents complete stations about the

harmful effects of tobacco products.

6th grade MyPlate ProjectStudents create their own MyPlate based

on what is learned in previous lessons.

GOAL: to engage students in physical

activities that prepare them to maintain lifelong fitness.

● ALL students begin physical activity upon entering the gym.

● ALL students participate in every physical activity in class equally--

no student sits out (unless medically excused).

● Students can earn 10 points per day (in addition to graded skill

assessments and written content-based assessments)--

5 points for being prepared with P.E. uniform and sneakers;

5 points for positive attitude, good character and good sportsmanship

● If medically excused, earn points by completing alternate assignment.
